    I understand your frustration but I'm not sure what you mean by "truck passing lane?" Unless you are in CA. or a few other parts of the country there is no such thing as a "truck passing lane." In fact, here in AZ, like most other "civilized" parts of the country, there's no restriction on lanes at all. I have driven in the carpool lane (after the restricted hours of course.) The problem that I see is too many commercial drivers are toooooo chicken S*** to get out in the hammer lane at the posted speed limit or two or three above it. Or maybe too many commercial drivers don't know that there is no such thing as a "truck passing lane?"

    When ever I can, I will be in the center lane. I had a near miss outside of Denver where for some reason they must have a law that says when someone is coming onto the freeway, the people in the right lane must come to a complete stop to let them in. AND here, people think they have right away when they get on that on ramp, so you will be doing the speed limit and someone will be near your rear end of the truck or trailer and expect you to slow down to let them in.

    Saw an accident like that the other day, the guy refused to slow down for a truck in the lane while merging onto 94. The driver said he he thought the guy was behind him until he felt the trailer being pushed over by the car that ended up hitting the rear tires on the trailer. My wife and I stopped and told the cop who was at fault and the driver was grateful someone stopped. The idiot driver in his new Challenger was complaining to the cop that he had right away, he got the ticket while the car will never be the same.

    I wish it was too because they just don't hand out licenses to people as if they have a right to them.

    I run the middle lane when I'm in a place where the 4 wheelers don't understand the concept of using the ACCELERATION RAMP to ACTUALLY ACCELERATE to the speed of the traffic they are trying to merge with. If there are too many instances where they don't know how to merge, then I'll go to the middle lane and sit there. Screw it. But I do watch my mirrors and if there's a truck behind me that looks like he bearing down hard to pass, I'll do a courtesy move to the right lane, then immediately go back to the middle when it's safe. I usually get a friendly wave of thanks as the driver passes by...

    With my last company in busy cities like Dallas I did stay in the middle lane and kept with the flow of traffic.Reason being because the granny lane kept exiting off.But if I have a slow trk I will stay in the granny lane and hope some nice motorist will let me over when I turn my signal on.

    If your in a populated area such as any city and you want to pass the person in front of you that is doing the speed limit or is rolling with the flow, you need to slow your a-- down and not be in such a hurry. You will not save enough time even if you don't crash somewhere to make it worth while on the other end.

    Who said anything about being in a hurry or going too fast.I leave plenty of following distance and if someone wants to get over they can.Im not going to go granny speed either if im in the middle lane and piss the traffic off.I drive a nice steady pace.

    I'm a city P&DC driver in Indianapolis. I spend all day every day driving the I-65/I-70 split, and also the I-465 bypass. Even during peak rush hours, there's no reason to be riding the middle lane if you aren't passing anyone or exiting the freeway. Who gives a crap what everyone else does. You claim to be a professional, act like one and follow basic traffic laws. Keep right except to pass.

    Also, slow your ### down. The posted speed limit on I-465 is 55 mph and the speed limit through the split is 50 mph. Nothing ticks me off more than having the paint blown off my truck by so called professionals as I drive through the split.
