Hey now with the speeding BS hhaaha. It's just more ways for them to micro manage. They née to worry about getting better paid freight and leave the driving to the drivers. Keep their suit ideas out of my #### work place.

With 3 GPS devices who needs a...what do they call it? Maape? I 'occasionally' refer to paper pretrip, then ignore after that.
By dumbing down we can eat, drink, text, email, make calls, adjust sat radio, talk on CB, watch four wheelers, clip finger nails and never miss a turn. Unless we blow a fuse! Oh No!

Sorry but I agree with wyldhorses. Writing down directions is not a 1983 method. It is a very smart and productive method especially when your fancy GPS gives you garbage or quits working. Maybe you younger drivers need to pay attention to the driver who has done this job for 30 years. There is much to learn from them. Technology is not everything.

Well for those of you who prefer a paper map as opposed to a modern up to date gps with turn by turn directions, just turn off your gps and use your map and be happy. But not me. I love having a gps and using it! Is it always 1000% right? No, but neither is a map or directions you get from dispatch! Nothing in this world is perfect, or ever will be. But I love my GPS! GPS is quicker, easier and makes truck drivers more productive which equals more money for companies and drivers.

I bet it takes you alot more time to plot out your route on a map and check it over and over as you go as opposed to just punching it into the gps and taking off - if you add up the time you lose by using a paper map every year as opposed to a gps you are talking about money that you are losing by sitting there looking at your map instead of driving.

If you look at the number of data errors on a truck gps, you would find good reason to use an atlas and double check your routing. The time spent to use an up to date atlas to check your route will be far less than the time spent because you had to back out of an area you should not have been....Low Bridge...Truck restricted road...:yes2557:

The Roehl system is for truck routes, not cars. Low bridges and restricted truck routes are accounted for.

So are you gonna throw out your gps and rely on an old fashioned map only?

I don't know what this Driver is thinking but every Driver should have a Rand McNally. That book you think is useless actually has information that is important to you in it. But hey you know everything and I am just some dumb Driver. That opti stop program they use sucks. Period. If they implement this navigation system it is just one more way to put the screws to the Driver and ping them for silly stuff.

I'm a new driver raised the old school way. I agree GPS is a good tool to have but if you can't use an atlas turn in your keys. I write the directions down verify route via atlas and roll. Takes a few minutes but it works best. I was BSing with a driver at a TS not to long ago asking directions cause he was unable to find the customer cause his gps died. Dude was helpless. Sadly it was on a main road too. I got him directions via atlas in about 5 min.
