Yeah I have been through the back roads in KY in Bell and Leslie Counties that were hair raising enough in an F150 comi g out of Virginia to the Bluegrass Parkway. Forget the road but it was nerve racking especially at night not having run that stretch before.

The only dangerous ones are the ones that you go down too fast ...you can't be too scared at 20 mph

we carry chains but I won't use them unless I don't have a choice , if the roads are that bad you shut down until the weather passes

as far a scary roads ...try US 6 around the Eisenhower tunnel at Keystone CO
3am with snow falling ( it's the hazmat route )

...and when the chain law is up for a week at a time? You're just going to sit there, and burn fuel until you run your tanks dry?

as long as you use your head there is not a mountain pass on a truck approved route in the country to be afraid of. if you decide to go off on the truck restricted routes you can find yourself in a dangerous situation.
also remember the old saying ' you can go down a mountain too slow a thousand times, but you are only going down ittoo fast once'

What is a "truck dedicated route"? And what is the difference between a "truck approved route" and a "truck dedicated route"? So truck approved routes are safe and truck dedicated routes aren't safe?

    Thanks

Being from Georgia good chances are you will stay east of the Mississippi for the most part. But I not seen any really bad roads anywhere. Yes Calif has speed limits that is unsafe use to be Ohio was known for but they smarten up. Any hill or Mountain can be dangerous in winter months. I know one in PA it took me hour to get up once, 1 inch ever 5 min of spinning on ice

some mountain passes can be dangerous in summer too sometimes. Just lookup 'Monarch Pass' here on the forums.
