I'd be interested in hearing from anyone 50+ who has begun a 2nd career in trucking. I am considering signing up with Schneider and am interested in receiving any input on pre class physical, training, and advice on how to live on the road without spending too much. Thanks in advance.

there was several people in my class that were 45+ the physical is nothing to be worried about, you just basically need to be able to lift 60lbs over your head and pass a blood pressure test.

the training was easy, lots of class work, and time spent in the truck driving it around the yard and a little on the roads with an instructor

the best way to save money on the road is to get a 12volt fridge and keep your own supply of food and dont go out buying every little gadget you see at a truck stop

Go to schneider web site. There are pictures and a list of exactly what you will be required to do. Doesn't seem too hard. Good luck.

Weight is in a milk crate. Weight varies depending on what the weight is supposed to simulate, I.e. loading cab with gear, unloading or loading trailer. Etc.

This video sums up what they expect for us to pass. The only headache I see is the 12" step and my bum knee.

I had to help a Prime driver back into a hole a few weeks ago. He was a newbie of at least 60 years young. He said he came from doing oil field work. Laid off.

I am 55......came to Schneider almost 4 years ago. I was in middle management with FedEx and got ran off for having a bad attitude.....couldn't get hired stocking shelves at Toys Are Us over Christmas (honest), so I decided to give trucking a go and haven't looked back. Best thing I ever did.
    Good luck
