This idea came about after unsuccessfully looking to find drivers for my company. Knowing that a starting truck driver can make between 3.5k-5k/ month, if working long hours and maybe 20-25 days a month, a lot of people would be interested, because we all know that no job without a degree pay that and many college graduates start with less than that. The way I see it, which I have done myself, you work for a company 4-12 months, gain valuable experience on their trucks, make an average of 4k a month, save 10 and in 4-12 months but your own truck and reefer and make 8-12 k depending on what your plans or choice of lifestyle is. So why aren't more people doing this? My reasoning is that either they do not know the income potential, they do not want to be away from their family or they cannot leave their current job and attend CDL school which can take a month or more and costs big money. My first questions to you are:
    1. Why do you think there arent enough drivers to recruit?
    2. What is the average cost and completion time for CDL school?
    3. Do you agree with me on the income potential?

My solution to this problem is opening a CDL school which offers great training with superior certification so the drivers do not have problems getting recruited by good paying companies, very flexible hours with night classes to allow students to work it around their current work schedule and make it a free school to the student with the condition that we place them with a company which will cover their fee. Student could also be pre approved by a company and they will sponsor them into our program.

What is your opinion on this? Thank you for reading this and please let me know if you have any questions.

There's plenty of drivers. We are used and abused by megacarriers, thats why we dont go working for them
Post jobs on websites and newspapers and you'll have them calling.
Pay them well, get them home

Yes there are lots of drivers but GOOD DRIVERS are hard to find , post an AD and you get a guy show up with 3 years experience and he is a TRAIN WRECK , then gets all :( because you will not hire him.

There needs to be an apprenticeship setup for new drivers and as you learn ( not just aim the truck down the road ) and your skills increase you get accredited and eventually certified as a DRIVER.

This sit in a classroom , drive around in a truck with 3 others and BARELY pass your lic test , then go to a carrier with BIG DREAMS is costing everyone $ with poor results.

Yes some CARRIERS use it to their advantage while others CRINGE at the thought of whats APPLYING for work.

You have to look high and low to find those few companies willing to pay newly licensed drivers a grand a week. Drivers Solutions does what you are proposing ... sort of, but new drivers aren't getting anywhere near a grand a week. Don't see how you can convince a company to pay that much to a new driver when they can get two for that price but hey, go for it.

I don't agree with your income figures. Every so often a new guy can hit $1000 a week, but its not consistent. I would say the figures are over inflated. On top of that you have to consider season. Most new guys pull van and freight slows down in the winter. Reading this board in the winter season and its pretty clear what the real income potential is.

I do wish you luck in your endeavor.

Good idea...but not too realistic I'm afraid. Even if you're plan could come to fruition you would still be putting IN-EXPERIENCED drivers in the drivers seat. Now granted I've seen some , many in fact , 20 and 30 year veterans that have absolutely no business behind the wheel...mainly because of attitude though not experience/skill set. In the trucking profession you are either experienced or not , simple as that....only thing that changes that scenario is time/patience and lots and lots of both. Just an OLD FART's take on your post/idea.
