On the other hand, they were all offered a chance to become their own boss by leasing a truck. -

Based upon statistics, the mega-carriers ARE the least profitable companies within the industry.
The mega-carriers seem to be the only companies that declare that there is a "driver shortage" within the industry. Yet, the mega-carriers seem to be unwilling to provide a respectable wage and any sort of respectable treatment toward their drivers. On the same hand, the mega-carriers seem to forget that the driver IS the profit maker for the company.
Instead of treating their drivers with respect and paying their drivers with a decent wage, the mega-carriers seem to do otherwise. In the meantime, the mega-carriers hire more and more office personnel, in which the mega-carriers pay the "support personnel" an hourly wage, or salary for their particular "service" to the company...... which provides only an added overhead cost.
For the most part, the majority of the office support personnel earn an income that is greater than the driver, provides for nightly home time, provides for weekends off, provides for holidays off and provides for a "normal life" of work. Yet, every one of these office support personnel are an overhead cost.
In the meanwhile, the mega-companies will continue to pay their drivers nothing more. They will continue to treat their drivers with nothing more. They will continue to use, abuse and work their drivers to a fatigue to which the driver finally "throws in the towel" to leave the trucking industry altogether.
And, the mega-trucking companies complain that there is a driver shortage?
81 office personnel were laid-off from C. R. England, and made news in the Salt Lake City region and probably throughout the trucking media. Yet, the 3000 + drivers that drive for C. R. England and are treated like crap on a daily basis, and paid less than a minimum wage are news stories that aren't newsworthy?
And the mega-carrier whines of a driver shortage?? And the mega-carrier is probably one to support the cross-border Mexican program in order to pay drivers LESS.
The mega-carrier IS the problem within the industry and the mega-carriers ARE the problem within the industry.pattyj Thanks this. -
Therefore, you either do care, or you're just stupid to post to the wrong site. Or, maybe you're just an idiot? -
Brilliant!! -
Mega carriers don't wanna admit they are the main cause of a driver shortage and what drivers they have don't stay long. The day companies admit to any wrong doing is the day I would count all the pigs flying.
