How well do you do on snow/ice roads?

i got my first taste of it over the last 3 weeks in michigan, wisconsin,and N chicago ' i did pretty well considering i grew up in the deeep south LOL
my problem was when i stopped at the TA xit 1 between milwaukee and chicago about 2 weeks ago . 20 minutes from where i had to deliver in AM with snow blowing like crazy i had to do some creative parking LOL (not blocking anyone or impeding traffic. when i woke in AM to make delivery the snow had blown up around ALL my tires, so needless to say i was stuck. my Co. called a wrecker at 8 AM i was supposed to deliver at 9, but i had till 6 at the latest.
i waited thinking it would not be long (if i knew it would be as long as it was i woulda asked for a pull!) at 11 i called breakdown back and they said the CO was REALLY busy and would be there at 2 PM to pull me and 7 other trucks out. well 2 came and went still not wanting to get a driver to pull me lest the wrecker show up then and still charge me ,i waited. at 530 i had had it and got a covered wagon to pull me out and called to cancel wrecker. i was sitting in a spot at about 8 PM when i saw the wrecker come rolling by!! at least i got a 34 reset out of it.

 

Hey, pat since you are from the deep south let your tires cool before you hit the dock. The road heat will melt the ice and re-freeze around your tires.

 

I never thought of that, being from SoCal...good advice there Notarps, good advice

 

We are having a 'heatwave' at the moment. Today was above freezing for the first time in about 2 months, and the result was awful!
Every time I brought a loaded trailer back from a shipper (did this 5 times today), and put it in the full lineup, I had to get tugged out by the yard truck as the yard is as slick as snot. The melting snow creates a perfect slippery surface, and its nasty!

 

That sucks! Nice to hear your roads arent that slick tonight though! Safe driving!

 

Heh, how do you guys explain those conditions to the global warming crowd?

 

Every day I do at -50F I ask myself the same question! Seems that there is not warming happening in this part of the world (except today where we were above freezing for a while!).

 

The only reason they're screaming global warming is because they haven't figured out how to adjust the thermostat in they're office yet!!
