Methinks if things go ok, I'll be heading to Lancaster.
Believe it or not, Swift has been the quickest company to get things in order... want me to start Tue.
I'd keep looking, but I have another car payment due the end of the month. That's what happens when a 12 year old car dies in the middle of BFE, Az on I-10.
A few questions...
1. I haven't done any 45 or 90 backing.... just straight and parallel in a 48' van. Will that affect the driving test very much?
2. Do we pay lumper fees from personal or company $. My b.f. drove for Stevens a while back and said they had to pay cash and the company never reimbursed him quite enuf on his paycheck.
3. So I drive to Lancaster, and they put me in a hotel. Is the hotel going to be deducted from my check? or would be be easier to drive home at night... I'mk going for 3 days training, not school.
4. Does Swift do teaming while training? The recreuiter says I'll drive "some" and the trainer drives "some". I specifically asked if that was two 11 hours drives...
I don't think she really understands what team driving is, but she said Swift didn't team for training.
I know Swift pay sucks, I just need to get started somewhere! And need a bit of help as far as driving, delivering, backing, etc. That's another reason I'm looking at the biggies, to get a trainer. School was fine, just not enough time to really get good. I will say it's interesting sitting in the back with other peeps trying to learn how to shift.....
especially going up hill at a red traffic signal with vehicles in back, of course.
Thanks,
Mary

Why don't you apply at Raider Express right there in Ft. Worth.
mje Thanks this. -
the 3 days i rthink is orientation, not training. they'll give you a drive test to determine how long to go out with a mentor. in youe case, most likely, you'll do the whole 240 hrs( about 4-6 weeks). first part of traiing, the mentor is in the passenger seat watching and showing you what you need. you'll have to do a certain amounts of differant baxking(day and nite) before tou can test out. the mentor will decide when it best to team. as far as lumper fees.. you send a mac for authorizing p.o.# and give lumper a comcheck. you don't pay for it. just send in receipt and all done. mentor will show you.as far as hotel..don't know how that is handled. but if live close, done see why you can't go home.

also,,orieentation will consist of physical and drug test. videos and talks about policies
-
They were next in line....I'll call them tomorrow.
Thanks

Drug test , no biggie unless they test for coffee.
Medical should be ok.
Videos...I can stay awake watching my bf's boring science/history/how it's made tv shows, so anything different is ok.
Policies...I can take lots of notes....
Thanks...

Swift pays for the hotel during orientation. If there is another woman in the class you will have a room mate as swift pays for 2 students to a room. If you want a room to yourself, either you pay for half, or hope there isn't another female!

Ok, I'll pbly have a roommate.
Got the email where to go what to bring.
Recruiter must work 14 hr days.
Only thing left is to go down the road and see if I'd rather haul rocks. Not too sure about the training there. I do know some co's want at least 4 mos otr and driving gravel belly dumps or lift trucks doesnt count.
Thanks

Take it SLOW! And G.O.A.L... several times!!!
2. You send a Mac40 to request lumper pay, which they then load to your Comdata card. You then call Comdata and register a Comcheck for the lumper and give the check to the lumper.
Then you fill out a form for Swift that includes the PO# sent to you, and collect the receipt from the lumper. These are scanned along with your trip sheet stuff (BOL, scale tickets, if any, etc.), and Swift will reimburse you on the next paycheck.
They have never failed to reimburse me the full amount. But keep in mind, it is a pay advance. If you don't scan in the proper documents you will eat the cost until you do. (My last lumper fee was not scanned in time for my last paycheck, so it was deducted. But it will be reimbursed on my next check.)
3. If they put you up in a hotel, they pay for it. Actually, they give you a voucher that pays for it.
You will share the room with one other person. If you want a private room, you will pay 1/2 the bill.
4. Yes, you will run as a team while in training - after you complete your first 50 hours of driving (actual driving hours), and your mentor is confident in your driving ability.
That usually takes between 1 and 2 weeks.dptrucker Thanks this. -
Yeah, that's more like what I was expecting.
Thanks,
Mary
