There's the secret one where Lease Op instructors try discuss ways to convince their students/trainees to work for them at slave wages rather than graduate and get there own truck at the end of training.
kinda wish I hadn't caused a ruckus there, or I'd know what new BS they've hatched.

Yeah my time is worth more then $14 dollars.i get where i need to ne asap that's why i m a company driver.

I don't know anybody who goes that slow.
On a 2800 mile week, I can make $100 in bonuses with minimal effort, making all appointments, and only squeaking by company minimum on mpg.
In all actuality, making high 7s and mid 8s is really easy. At the 8.3 mpg neighborhood, you're looking at about 3.7 cpm. This fluctuates based on a dozen variable factors, but consistently bringing home an extra weekly Benjamin is easy.
Right now, I am experimenting with fifth wheel placement. Hauling a 44000(ish) pound load with my fifth all the way forward on a 140xxx trailer with no major flaws or damage to skirts. I am driving through moderate to small hills and mountains (I-84, I-80, I-25), and after a few hours of town driving which held me in the low 5s for a while, I've pulled myself into the low sevens by running a solid 59, and using the hills to my advantage.
By the time I reach the 90, I expect to be firmly in the low 8 range. -
I was running in a 2011 Cascadia (in 2011) and that was a great truck, then I finished my hours and was given a 387 Pete....OMG, an M-1 Tank road better. It died on my first run, so they sent me to Detroit for a repoed lease that also was a 387 Pete, just as bad a the first Pete. By the time I'd finish my hours for the day, I felt like I had fought a bear all day long and lost every time.
Freightliner has a nice truck with a good turn radius and comfort. -
I like a full sized cascadia, just don't care for the babies.
Love my prostar though. -
Jimmy,
I read a lot of your blog, and I'm actually pretty impressed.
I skipped about 30 pages so I want to ask:
1) Do you really get the 41cpm?
2) Are you averaging at least 2,500 miles per week?
3) Do you need endorsements
4) Do they run standard non refer boxes? (I'm getting a little old to jump up and down off of flat beds)
Thanks! -
Well, here we go then.
1) I average closer to 45 CPM due to fuel bonuses.
2) I tend to get between 2300 and 2800 a week. My checks vary between $900 and $1200 pre-tax, averaging in about $950 take home.
3) No dry van at Prime. We have Reefer, tanker, and flats. We have a few dedicated runs that we don't haul our trailers; mostly Walmart. I get about half and half bumps and drop'n hooks. Every now and again I'll get a dry load in my reefer, though it is uncommon really. -
And endorsements are only necessary for tanks or if you want to pull hazmat.
-
tanker endorsement will be required within the next 12 months unless the new DOT rules are amended. Liquid transport container size thresholds for tanker endorsements are being lowered. We haul a lot of reefer loads with liquids in tote sized containers. Totes fall within the new rule. Theyre already mentioning it on the safety CD as something drivers should be looking at getting the endorsement sooner than later.
