Just clarifying the source of the logic error with that feature... My 520 does issue an audible "speed warning" message when I exceed my user-defined speed limit, but only when that user-defined speed is also above the car speed limit.

Example: Set speed warning at 59mph, and hit 59mph on...

I-5 in Mt. Shasta, California -- Red speed readout, but no verbal warning given (exceeds 55mph truck speed limit, but not 70mph car speed limit)

I-5 in Portland, Oregon -- Red speed readout and verbal warning given (exceeds 55mph car&truck speed limit)

Mine used to display the name of the upcoming exit or street at the bottom.
Now, it just gives the exit number. Anyway of getting that feature back?

Tap that part of the screen. It should cycle between city/county/state, mile marker, & upcoming exit

I should post a permanent link for this. haha..

Speed limits are set by segments in the Map Database. They are broken down into car and truck speeds. If the truck speed is missing in a segment(s), but might be in prior/future segments on the same road, then the Code has to try to account for the missing truck speeds. A lot of back and forth in the code has gone on.

CA the truck speeds are missing some in the Map Database and since trucks are set at 55 and cars are set at 65, then the code went by the car speed. The option to set a speed was set in a feature. If you set to 56 mph, the speed indicator on the map screen will turn red, but no voice. This was addressed back to RM awhile back.

As mentioned many times, the Map Database is not 100% perfect.

Truck GPS really did not make the market till about 4 years ago. Map companies made GPS's, but how many people in a car would send in corrections? So, the maps stayed as they are. Cars do not drive by truck restrictions, so the maps companies only had what the states submitted.

Upon the advent of Truck GPS, now the restrictions are seen more. Rand has spend 4 years and many hours correcting the Truck restrictions and submitting those issues that were map related. Navteq supplies our map data. NavTeq upon getting the corrections will verify again, but still all this takes time.

I hope the mud is clearer now? I left this vague as I cannot go into a lot of what happens behind the scenes.

    Thanks,
    Mark

............I appreciate what you're saying but when you purchase a "Truck" specific GPS unit you expect it to operate better in Truck mode than car mode & not the other way around. I guess it would be WAY too expensive for R.M. to develop their own mapping program? While I have your attention Mark, What's next in the line up? A 730? Are you allowed to let us look into your crystal ball?

Mark .........Is cost the MAIN FACTOR in RM getting map data from Navteq rather than from a more reliable source such as Google ?

If Google ever came out with a GPS.....Where, when you got close to your destination it would give you a street (real picture) view AND a satellite view. THAT would be the bee knees. Mark the next version (730) (820) needs to have variable volume tied into the speed (like a radio, the faster you go, it steps up the volume a bit) I notice on mine, when I have it set perfect for 55 M.P.H., then come into a town it seems WAY too loud.
