I thought supervisory positions on the service side paid well?

Mind sharing who work for? And guessing about $1500 a week, how much are your living expenses? I'm assuming you are in west TX.

I worked for trican. Today was my last day. I live in the Dallas are and worked usually in west tx with trican. The pay for frac should be around 1500 to 2000 a week but it wasn there. The disorganization from the corporate level to the bottom made it impossible for them to keep any steady work.

do you think (in your opinion) that what you describe above is just this company, or do you think that the oil field industry in texas as a whole has a hard time providing steady work?

BTW- does steady work mean JUST your 40 hr/wk (no overtime) or are you guys not even getting your 40?

From what I heard from some others there is a ton of work in the oilfields in texas and money to be made. I am guessing it was the company but Me99 has to confirm that. I know there were some other threads about fracing which is what I have read, you can try doing a search and get some more info.

We almost always got our forty per week but I don't frac to get forty hours a week. Lots of frac companies have steady work which means they go from one well to the next and frac everyday of the year. Those are the places you can make good money. When I was at Pumpco we got a min of sixteen hours everyday for a year straight.

16 hours a day for a year seems brutal on your body, did you get enough time to even do anything? I know my wife wouldnt be happy, heck she hates me being home only 4 days a month.

If we can make the math really general I might be able to help you guys see how much work there is in tx. Last I heard there was over 800 rigs in tx. Let's say half of those are drilling horizontal which have to be fraced. So out of the 400 we know that you need about four rigs to keep one frac fleet busy. So know we have 100 frac fleets. Each fleet will need three crews to work on a rotation. So know we have 300 crews. You'll need a minimum of 10 guys per fleet so that gives you 3000 frac hands alone. Then you think about all the people that support one frac fleet.
Like I said that is really general but it gives you a better idea and I would say my numbers are very conservative. There's lots of work in Texas!!

Do you know where you may go next? I will be out of school around the first week of October and on the hunt for employment. I will try south first because it is closer to Austin. I will head out west without hesitation should I have any difficulty. I lived in Odessa in the early 80's, so I am familiar with the area and conditions. Good luck to you where ever you go.
