And just to get you off your high little horse, when I took the CDL, when it first came into effect, I took every test available. I missed two questions. I think I scanned the CDL booklet twice, sitting in the pax seat, after a graveyard shift. It seems you should be a tad more careful in your assumptions, as it's unlikely you know that green book any better than a whole lot of us old timers.
Now, I think I'll have another drink, and ponder whatever will I do with myself this week. -
I am well aware of the pre-GPS and cell phone days. I lived them myself, and used many pay phones for my own company and direction calling. I really don't need the history of the true grit days.
You seem to think I have a complete disrespect for a multi-decade / multi-million mile veteran truck driver. I do not. But I do have issus when they will tell me what it is to come into the industry today when they have not had to experience it themselves. Nonsense existed back when they came in, different nonsense exists today. Don't tell me how the world works today after what I have dealt with.
The one thing I completely agree with you on (and have seen myself) is the higher paid veteran driver not running as many loads as the newbie. Example: I stopped at a TA in Georgia on a monday on my way to Ohio. I pulled up along side another truck of the same company. Clean rig, new snub nose Peterbilt. Far nicer than my KW T-600. On my way back south, I pull into the same TA 3 1/2 days later, I see the same rig in the same parking spot. I remember because it's such a nice rig. I talk to the driver. I ask if it's just coincedental I see him again in the same spot. He tells me no, 'I'm still waiting for a load'. As we talk further, I learn he's on the same region as me, and the same D.M. to boot! He told me he does not have 1,500 miles that week yet. I told him I am near 3,000. He does not believe me. I invite him into my truck to show him my log. He is pissed, and rightfully so. I ask him how long he has been with the company. He replies 15 years. I told him I just started 3 months ago. Bingo, the low paid driver (me) is run like a 10 year vet (which is dangerous), and the higher paid and more experienced veteran driver who has paid his dues and been loyal to the company gets the shaft because his miles cost more. This IRRITATED ME as well. Don't think for a second I have complete disrespect and un-caring of the veteran driver. I hated seeing the way they were rooked over because of their pay per mile. I heard the complaints at every truck stop and terminal I went to. I agree it's just plain wrong.
I do however have a complete disrespect and disregard for those who say I should do certain things I do not have to do, and should not do because it's illegal, and if I don't do it, I am un-suited for the industry. If I'm in a group of 100 people on top of the Empire State Building and 99 jump, I'm not going to follow just because the majority did something I probably should not do.mje Thanks this. -
I'll go to bed thinking of the whooping you gave me. I feel so ashamed. Another one who's going to tell me I knew nothing, and am to blame for issues I was handed in the industry. Just another who wants to say the company was right because you do not like what I had to say. When I spell out every detail of what I experienced in a thread I will post at a later date, I'll bet you'll say you should have followed the policies that could have gotten you in trouble because we all do it. I think I have proved how some like yourself will not believe that many people trying to get into the industry are used and rooked over, and will say things to discredit things I say that will seem convincing to those who know less.
I'd love to hear your double-speak regarding compliance and safety. Or maybe not.
You're a lot of fun too with the 'you think you're so superior' inuendos. If you want to include yourself as not knowing the little green book, go ahead. Did I use the word ALL? It's amusing how some read into things that are not there. But yeah, I know the book far better than the company hoped for, and far better than MOST others. I ACED my written with ease. I missed 0 questions. But that does not make me better. But I do know the book, and I was penalized for following regs everyone else ignores. Boo Hoo I did not do everything the company way, and followed a higher authority. Can't do that in trucking and be 'suitable for the industry'. Gotta be creative with your log which comes down to disregarding certain things easy to get away with. Got the wrong guy here where that's concerned. Yes, many industries try to encourage you to break the rules, but more so in trucking.mje Thanks this. -

Are you folks ready for round #2....Roadiesean....you mentioned in post number 65 that you have flown planes for a long time. I have a really good friend that I went to high school with that recently retired from AA's. No way in the world you could talk him into driving a truck. I'm not calling you a liar or anything of the sort , if you want to continue working instead of retiring , more power to you. Where I draw the line is you come on here with an attitude that you know so much more and have lived through the same times as those of us that started doing this in the 60's. Now I'm anything but an expert on ANYTHING....but I started doing this as a teen. Does that mean I know all there is to know about trucking ...no....not even close. But after an accident free career of well over 30 years I can say I've been there and done that ....twice.
You seem ready to throw trucking under the bus , because of a bad deal you got....Sir...you have not a clue about what a bad deal is...not a clue. Trucking has changed....tremendously...from the time when there wasn't a 4-lane road that encompassed the country , to the massive interstate system that we now have.....trucks and technology have evolved...but people are still people...there were good places to work then , there are good places to work now...so instead of trying come on here and educate all of the poor veterans who know nothing about what has transpired over the past several decades ( we must've been driving with our eyes shut)..why not just go find a good job your self...all the bitterness and attitude that you have do nothing to solve the problems you face in the industry, sure we all wish things were better....but they have been much worse.....mje, Hammer166, Pilgrim007 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Trucking can suck if you go into it with no career plan. There is SO MANY different paths you can take in trucking. Like dry van, flat bed, reefer, tanker, etc. Research them all. Find what appeals to you.
If you plan on doing OTR/Mega carrier....get the experience thru them then move on after your one year.
Look into tanker. The job pays well & if you can get a gig like delivering to gas stations....you'd be home everyday. -

See, forums just have folks who love to instigate. This could have ended, but you won't have it. You just have to try to show I do not know what I speak or complain about.
This is a trucking forum, NOT aviation. I could care less what anyone did or does that you know. There are different disciplines in aviation. I was NOT a pilot of an airliner. My flying was not under FAA part 135. What I was doing died with the economy, and other positions could not be had. I decided on driving at least for a while, until things got better with aviation, and I was going to keep my ratings - etc. current while driving. Why the change in career is really none of your business or anyone else's. Sometimes it's something that has to happen.
Don't tell me I have no clue what a bad deal is. It amazes me how people know others on a forum based on reading a few posts - especially when they do not like what the person had to say.
I said it before. I not here to kiss up to or be chummy with the veterans who think I do not know anything. I am not here to 'educate' veteran drivers, but don't tell me you know everything a newbie is dealing with today when you've been in the industry X number of years or decades and did not have to experience entering the industry today yourself.
I tire of those who love to instigate bickering, maybe to get me banned from the forum because I am quick to defend myself. I tire of the 'you have no clue of this or that with your lack of experience' inuendos, and I tire of the 'your problems were your fault'. This makes me even more bitter and combative. It's a joke the way people cover up the unscrupulous things done to some in this industry. Make the complaining individual look bad and the industry look good. I know the game.
