Hey everyone. All I want to do is download my recorded tv shows from my HD DVR to a device and then connect it to the tv in my truck and watch the recorded shows. Direct tv says that it is not possible. The problem is what device could I use. Has anyone done this?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Not without something like a Roku box and stream it. I've looked into it myself and would be interested if anybody has been successful. Direct has fairly locked down box because of digital rights.

buy yourself a slingbox. hooks up to your direct receiver. download the app to your laptop. you can now stream your tv to your laptop.

plug laptop into tv. wa lah.

streaming tv will eat up your internet. unless you have umlimited.

been awhile since i did that. so there may be other methods around. or not.

You might try a streaming service like Hulu or Amazon Prime. here's a link to info about Amazon Prime:

We were discussing it in this forum just a while ago. Looks like it might be worth a look, especially if it has the shows you are looking for,

Streaming is what I am trying to avoid because of the cost of bandwidth. GenieGo is the best solution if you have unlimited service. My Verizon service is to expensive to stream. Thanks for everyone's response.

if you have an internet connected tv. there's always truckstop wifi. might have to wait for that first show to download. but the others can download while your watching the first show.

price of tv's are getting cheap these days. and black friday is just around the corner.

you wouldn't even need a tv. any blu ray plaer has the same capabilities. most of them come with netflix and roku and what not.

I talked to direct tv tech support and they said it would not work. Don't know why though. Seems that it should work.

If you pay for trucks top wifi at a pilot will it also work at a flying j considering they are owned by the same company?

couldn't tell you. never used it. you'd have to start a thread on truckstop wifi and see what others say. from what i got from the clerk yesterday. petro was by the hour. 24 hours. or a monthly fee.

i have my phone for internet. and movies are downloaded onto a external hard drive. i watch em on laptop. kicked back in the sleeper.

on black friday i'll probably look into a tv. right now, i'm using a usb tv tuner plugged into my laptop for locals.

the reason you can't just pack a directv receiver out on the road. is they wonr't work without a ping from directv. the receivers have to be in constant communication. my aunt's old receiver made a phone call. the new receivers now get pinged through the dish.

least, that was the way i was understanding it from the dtv operator.

my old tivo wouldn't work. if the internet went down for whatever reason. becuase that was how it did it's communication with the company.
