We use 11 3/8 chains and 1 5/16 but I tend to only use the bigger chain just because the smaller chain just seems too small to me... but that is only my own weird mind games

I pulled a pipe spool out of the rub rail with a 5/16 on the old step, which is where a ratchet binder can get you in trouble. Very easy to overtighten something.... Since then, I have no problems with using them. If they can do that and not break, then using 4 of them on a Humvee will be fine lolRugerfan Thanks this.

There was a guy here today that had 1/2 chains on a load of steel bars. I asked him why he was using the 1/2 instead of 3/8 chains and he said that he usually hauls 50k on his step (tridem) and that the smaller ones didn't get used much. He admitted that lugging them around got to be tiresome after a while tho... but hey, if it works.
For me, I'd rather just toss some 5/16 on the little crap I haul. Even the JLG lifts get 5/16 chains. I'd like to get back to hauling machinery, but you know where the rates have gone with that stuff

I finally got system to get me 6 ratchet binders and I added 2 more of my own so I use 8 of those and then 6 snap binders and I always try to leave the snaps in the headache rack if at all possible... especially since we haul so many genie's they are so nice and easy but yeah it is very simple to over tighten things but ive just been really careful with them and haven't had a problem yet... apparently you are the hulk lol

Why no love for snap binders?
-
Because the conestoga im pulling... When I load scissor lifts they are really wide and when I snap the binder shut it sticks out from the railing that the curtain slides on and I cant shut the curtain unless I beat the binder back inside the railing somehow.. the ratchets I don't have that problem with. a few weeks ago I was beating one of the binders to the inside of the railing and one snapped open on me and hit me on the elbow and put a pretty good bruise on my arm for a couple weeks... at first I thought I might of broken something but it healed just fine
-
The first thought that came to my mind was when i used them with Arrow. The cheatrer bar slipped off the binder a couple of times and i almost got hit in the head. OUCH !!!! -
