Hey hows everybody been? me, ive been good. I am doing really good now that it is almost time to start trucking(late December). Some of you know the story and some dont, for those that dont ill tell you the short story.
I graduated Roadmaster on Feb 22nd, 2013 and found out i had 2 unpaid tickets which screwed me real good. tried applying at EVERY trucking company in the WORLD(yes even in Germany, im kidding) and was refused because i have 4 moving violations in the past 3 years, and was told to reapply on November 29th, 2013 (the day after one falls off).
The time is near and im getting a little nervous because trucking is a childhood dream of mine and i dont want anything getting in the way again. I will lose my mind if I get to orientation and they say no. With that being said, I come here, again. I came here to find out stuff about orientation (from verifying employment to walking like a duck, which has probably been posted on here before but ive searched and searched and cant find what i want/need). with this being said i would like to throw out a couple questions.
#1. I have a job from November 2011 that was under-the-table(1099 i believe?) and i dont have anything to show/verify that i worked there other than the owners name, number, and address. No tax papers or anything (hell i dont have any of that for any jobs). Is there anyway I can verify the jobs myself before I get to orientation just so I know that i dont have to stress that part.
#2. Drug Test. Piss? Hair? Blood? Offer me drugs and see what i do? i know somebody will give me hell about this question but everybody goes through things in life.
#3. Physical. Whats the height of the table i have to walk under? and how long do i have to walk? ive been practicing this everyday and can walk 1,000 miles (i have done it, dont doubt me lol) but im worried about how low i have to get because im pretty tall (6' 2").
Those are my main questions/concerns. fill free to add any info you like. I will use this post to update everybody on my journey. thanks for reading so far, hope i didnt bore anybody or mess anyone up with my lack of intelligence![]()
My journey!!!

You'd be better off not saying anything at all about your jobs unless you plan on filing tax returns. It's never too late to file, so they say.

If it doesn't work out with USX, get back on here and we'll help you find something.

Good luck Rollin!!

Being a 1099 contract employee is different from.being paid under the table.. if you were a 1099 employee you would.of singned something saying you were.. and your employer will turn that over with their taxes.. you would also receive a 1099 earning statement.. sort of like a w4, but, different since no taxes were withheld, it is just a statement of what you were paid... If you do not file and pay your taxes on your 1099 earnings they can, and more than likely will.catch up to you... Happened to a friend of mine.. and cause a bunch of headache, trouble, and more..
If, you were paid under the table.. that means the employer is paying you cash and will not be claiming any of it on their taxes so therefore you won't get any earning statement or w2's... I worked under the table for two years, but if I told.my boss that this company or that company would be calling to verify my employment he would.. same as if I was applying for a car loan, I would tell.m and she. They called he would verify it...
If I were you I be honest with them, if you were 1099 tell them, if you were under the table tell them..fr8te_sh8ker and Rollin_18 Thank this. -
I'm going to tell them about it because I don't want to lie, that would look real bad. Thanks for explaining the difference between the two. I got that statement but I can't remember what I did with it, is there a way I can get proof of this job? Or would them calling the owner be enough? I was a hard worker and he even made me a supervisor so I'm sure he would t have any problem helping me get past this.
thanks jmorgn and Chinatown. -
Get a notarized letter on company letterhead from your employer stating your position and dates of employment. That should be all they need. If the employer will not do that, at least prep him for the call that will be coming from USXl Do you have your tax returns? If so, I would take that also.

I don't have any of my tax returns. I'll call him and see if he still has any proof that I was working there. I got all my other jobs verified except that one. Just don't want that little thing to screw me

Just an update for everybody. Only 2 more days and I'll be clear to drive, thinking about waiting until after Christmas but as the time gets closer I just want to go, but then again don't want to sit at a truck stop for Christmas when I can be home with my kids and fiancé. Figure ill use the rest of this month and December to lose as much weight as possible and get healthy habits down because I drive for a living.
Im so excited and I feel confident that nothing will get in the way this time, only two jobs left to verify but will be a cake walk, just have to call them. Thinking about calling the IRS to see if they can send me old W2s so I can have that as well.
One question, does anybody know if Amy Hobbs is back to work yet? She was my recruiter the first time and I would really like her to be my recruiter when I get hired. Stay safe everybody. -
You will never talk to your recruiter once you arrive at orientation. It is really meaningless who they are at that point.
