So it's been awhile since I've been doing the whole trucker driverer thing, but with the local economy in the absolute dumps I'm gonna have to head back out there again. Yeah, there's a lot of arm-twisting behind this decision, can you tell?:biggrin_25522:

Anywho, I've been talking to Falcon Transport since they seem to have undergone a complete 180 from where they were a few years back. They've got flatbed freight (I'm only interested in skateboards, no more doors for me!), home weekends (I will have a social life, by golly!), and the pay is relatively decent for the amount of work and time away from home from what I can see in my research thus far. Won't get rich by any means, but the bills will be paid, a bit set aside for retirement or a rainy day, and there's still some for fun stuff.

So my question is: Recuiting is stating I do not need to go back to school for any kind of refresher despite the amount of time since my last driving gig. Once they are done with the background checks and past employment verification and I get an orientation date, I'll be good to go for orientation, securement training, and some trainer/trainee time.

I've been burned before in a similar situation with another carrier in the past, which resulted in me getting sent home from orientation (a first in my experience, and not something I wish to repeat!) for lack of recent experience. Has anyone else gone to Falcon with a valid license but no recent experience and gotten through to training time?

Are you the driver that posted a few months ago that Western Express sent you home for lack of recent experience, even though you went through their orientation and load securement? Poor management on their part! Probably lost a good driver because of it.

Just try to get Falcon to verify it one more time, before leaving for orientation.
Maverick will hire you with as long as your CDL is current; home weekends.
Paschall Truck Lines will also hire you, but it's dry van.
Schneider tanker division probably will hire you; another PA driver posted he makes $1200.00 a week with Schneider tanker.

Have you ever thought about McClymonds dump trucks? I know its not the flatbed thing that you're seeking but I'm betting the work is comparable and the money has to be close. Plus, I'm betting they're home more often. Just a thought - good luck with Falcon or whatever you choose to do! Times are rough out there for sure....GOOD driving jobs are hard to find.

Yes, that is the awesomeness that is myself. That very situation with Western Express is why I'm questioning whether or not this is valid with Falcon. I hope it is, cause that would get me back to work that much quicker.

I've talked to McClymonds, they require six months recent experience. Which, unfortunately, I do not currently have. A former manager of mine has been driving for them for a few years now and has yet to have anything negative to say about the experience. Drives a Daycab, home every night, and from what I gather is pulling down a pretty nice paycheck.

    Thanks, troops!

If you go to work for Falcon Transport, wash out every truck they assign you with bleach. The many of the company trucks are infected with scabies.

Glad to hear that about Falcon. They were the first ones that pre-qualify me and even checked in to know my progress. Still undecided as where to go.
