If they do keep you on it they should at least have to pay you the dedicated rate, if its more. I've been goin through a bit of the same lately. Not with Swift, but ive found myself running a lot of wal mart and target loads in and out of dc's where my company has a dedicated contract. Luckily no stores, yet.

I've had a couple of those.

When they need drivers it is best to help out as long as you can.
I did a Walmart in FL for a week before my home time, then I told them I needed to get home - and I went on home time.

Done a couple since as well.
I did not like them (I hated the relay runs with day-cabs), but we all have to pull together and help when needed.

This past week I have been running new 137xxx trailers from Wabash to the Manteno terminal.
(nice trailers - they even have the automatic air adjusters for the tandems)

And now I am back to normal operations.

I am a company driver, and I go where and when they need me.
    Within limits, of course.
I rarely accept a pplan before adjusting the times. Plus-1 sucks at planning.
And if I have a home time request in and they try to send me in the opposite direction, it is refused unless there is a backup plan to get me home.

I also was sent to Costco to drop my mt - I guessed because they needed it.
Then I was stacked 4 deep with the trailer moves. (200 mile round trips)
    Not all bad, though.
I was doing recap on my 70 with very limited hours. These loads kept me running to my full capacity, while giving the leeway to adjust the times as I saw fit. Not to mention, the shorter miles pay more per mile and have a short-haul bonus.
And just as better hours were rolling in I got stacked with 2 plans that again used my hours to best advantage.

Unless you are a total screw-up and they are trying to get rid of you...
The planners are just trying to do their job with the drivers and hours they have at hand to do it.

It's never a good Idea to force someone to do something they don't want to do.Because you never know how that person might react to his/her situation. For example.

At the end of the day...it is about money in your wallet. Let me put up some numbers......If the dedicated gig is paying 35 cpm and you are turning 2500 miles a week, or OTR that pays 41 cpm and doing 2500 miles a week. Which is fattening up YOUR wallet more?

if your getting decent miles why would it matter? i hear those walmart dedicated people talking all the time they love it. If you wanna pick and choose what you do buy a truck and trailer.. Your a company driver get used to being told what to do..

Don't know about all companies, but don't forget the drop pay for the dedicated account if it has more than one drop, that will add to your pay also.
