I graduated from CDL school on September 6th and i'm having a hard time finding a company that will hire me. The problem is I have a possession of marijuana on my record from october 2009... any advice? anyone know what companies are willing to work with me or at least give me a chance?

Gotta wait at least 5 years. Wait till next year and check what their policies are. Drugs are frowned upon in the trucking industry. Or check my thread about drugs, DUI and felonies in the experienced drivers section.

Well I was told that there are some companies that would still hire me and it was only a misdemeanor. I went to school at TDI in Sellersburg and they also told me it wouldnt be a problem but so far i'm not having much luck

Drugs are a huge no no. Doesn't matter if its a slap on the wrist or a felony. A drug charge is usually 5 years before you're looked at.

You'll learn in this business a lot of lies are passed. They'll tell you anything to get your money. Drugs are highly frowned upon in this industry mainly because the DOT and the insurance liability you create as a high risk with a drug record.

You'll probably have to wait until Oct 2014. You might stand a better chance finding a local job until then. Maybe even a class B job. OTR companies tend to do more thorough background checks and have a large pool of drivers to pick from.

Any mines near you where you can haul coal?

One thing you need to consider is not put your name out on the internet talking about your drug charge. For years to come potential employers can google and find this post easily. Many use Google and Facebook to find out stuff on potential employees. Just sayin'. You can PM an admin for a more discreet screen name.

One option I would consider is to hire a lawyer and he can get that charge expunged. The judge will seal the conviction so potential employers can't see it. Since you live in the boonies and it's causing you an employment hardship there is a good chance you can get that accomplished easily.

Move to California, Humboldt or Mendocino County.

Seriously though talk to a lawyer, you might be able to get a simple possession charged expunged.

and apply for expungement. you won't be eligible but the state will send you a letter letting you know how long you have to wait. then get it done when that time comes.

    just don't be caught anymore.

    in utah, it's 7 years
