And another thing...
The couple I've been to recently had basically "clean" parking spots, meaning they didn't STINK of urine and didn't even have that much grime in them. Either drivers have shown their appreciation for the facilities by not dumping urine all over the place, or the Turnpike Commission actually power washes their lots every so often. Or both. My guess it's the power washing that keeps the places relatively clean. There's no way the lots can be that clean without it.
The chain Truck Stops could learn a lesson from Ohio in this regard.
THANK YOU State of Ohio...

I love the smell of sanitizer in the morning.
joseph1135 Thanks this. -
Arkansas and Georgia have some NASTY rest areas. They are dirty. Florida's are beautiful. Most in Montana are just a bathroom and weather. NJ has nothing to write home about. Neither does PA but they are clean. Minnesota you are taking a half hour walk to go to the bathroom, lol, Washington has ones that have much to be desired. Idaho has nice big clean rest areas, Colorado's are nice but too few, Ohio is updating the non toll road ones.
Criminey Jade and Vito Thank this. -

Texas is slowly updating their rest areas. The new ones in Wickett, TX on 20 are really nice California's are kind of dingy but they do have a liberal view of where you can park Those rest areas on I-65 in Kentucky seem to have more parking spots than all the truckstops on 65 in that state combined, lol. Same with the nifty rt 66 themed rest area on I-44 in Missouri.I'm curious as to why Oklahoma is removing all the picnic areas along the 44 turnpikes. Cant cost them that much to maintain them

About the only ones that stand out in my memory are Arkansas. The one I took a 10 in was clean but fitted with prison-grade fixtures. That was kind of uncomfortable. On the other hand, those fixtures will probably outlast the highway they serve.
Seriously, you need to check your expectations of a free to use public facility. It's not like you're getting a restroom suite at a Hilton or something. -
The dirtbags well screw-up the good clean places.Just a matter of time.

It's also nice that Panera is in some of the Ohio plazas. Far better than more fast food options.

Speaking of Arkansas rest areas, the one near Social Hill (the one in the center) has one hell of a powerful air conditioning system. You could store fresh meat in that rest room!
