I had a ticket for illegal passing last year. Does that kill my chances to be considered as a truck driver? I'm in Iowa.

I do not think it would, ask the recruiter to make sure but they normally allow a couple minor things on a record.

Probably not. You should still be able to get hired if that's the only thing on your record

Well I had a couple of speeding tickets but that's been four years ago. The illegal passing was a hefty ticket, about $295.00.

I would call around to different companies and ask. Each one might have different requirements. Some might want a 5 yr history some 7 and some maybe 3. But without any experience I would call to get a direct answer.
It would be wise to watch your driving habits and start driving more appropriately if you want to have a career as a truck driver

Did you pass on a double yellow? Tell us more about the ticket. When was it. When was the speeding and how far over.?

Yes I did pass on a double yellow which was last year and as I mentioned it was a $295 ticket. The speeding violations were about 4 years ago. One was 68 in a 55 and the other was 70 in a 55. If these violations means that it doesn't look good for me to apply, I would rather save my money since it does mean an investment to start out in trucking just to find out that I wasted my time and money. Thanks for all the advice.

The speeding tickets arnt a big deal since you have had 4 years no speeding. They do add tot he really bad passing on a double yellow. Trucking companies will think if you were to impatient to stay behind the guy, how will you be in a slow truck. I'd call up a few companies and see what they say, but you might have trouble.

Contact Paschall Truck Lines. Sometimes they cut some slack & sometimes hire outside their hiring area.

Check with Gray in Des Moines. Don't know the full name of the company.
