lower r's at low speeds. higher r's in the higher gears.

    think powerband, not lug lug.

do a google for scangauge KR. it'll change your driving habits.

i have the scangauge D. i wouldn't recommend that unit. it's cheaper. but it does funky things with the ecm.

Snowwy... Do you think the Scangauge KR would do the same thing? We've been thinking about getting one, but don't want to screw anything up...

Slow down? How much slower can he go and be in the big hole. 10spd 1200 at 57? Main problem I see is that he's running right at peak torque. If he's running hilly conditions he's right at his peak torque and he's going to fall OUT of the torque curve on his hills. Counterintuitive but if he'd speed up for hills and cruise 57 flatland he may be better off. Dropping gears is just fuel out the stack. Hell burn more fuel over a shorter amount of time but less fuel overall if he gets off the hill quicker and doesn't have to drop a gear. Everything else I agree with though.

Low idle time and keeping the door shut are the main ones. And keeping rpms under that 1500 mark when shifting helps. I don't cross 1400 on my tach. Use torque to move your truck not HP and high rpms. Swapping to a 13spd would probably help as well sounds like you've got some tall gears in that truck if you're cruising 1200 at 57.

most on here are using KR. not many, if any are using D. after my 6g ecm repair. i quit using it.
i may consider a KR. sometime down the road. but the short time i used the D. was enough to teach me how to improve my fuel. higher rpms is the trick. along with all the other basic knowledge.

the best test was phoenix to flagstaff. 15 minutes faster. and mileage boost of THREE TENTHS. on that 170 mile journey. 3,8 - 4.1

it should be noted. that i've never driven a 10 speed. they've all been 13 or 18

    That's depressing last week 2.75 bucking a 40mph head wind:biggrin_2553:

But I looked good doing it:yes2557:

Its the suckers definition of winning but I'll take it. I know I'm never going to see decent fuel numbers.
