Over on drives and tandems, room on steers. Need to slide my fifth wheel. Don't know how. Tried putting the call out on the CB for a little help, no luck. Any body wanna talk me through this? Breakdown was decidedly unhelpful.

also, I can't get the tandem pins to go in, had to have a service truck come out last night to get them the way they are. So moving them will probably only happen once.
I'm thinking, fifth wheel forward one hole, tandems back three, burn off any extra weight on the drives as I burn fuel....?

1. Lower landing gear
2. Flip switch on dash for 5th wheel slide. (Get out and check to make sure it worked. Might have to hit the pins with a hammer.)
3. Release the tractor brakes (keep trailer brakes set) and slide the 5th wheel. -

We have had 2 trucks with our company. Both of them being ProStars. If you get it at the right spot then you'll never have to move it again. If its been a long time since its been moved then you might not be able to move it since its stuck.
If that's the case, have Breakdown give the go ahead to let you take it to a shop so they can slide it using a crowbar. I keep mine at the 3rd hole from the front. I never had to slide it again.

I tried breakdown route first because I know* that this is what will end up happening. Of course, I'm just a driver....the call ended like this

Not sure where your tandems and fifth wheel are set now (that would help), but in general if you only move your fifth wheel forward "1 notch", that will only transfer about 500 lbs to your steer axle.
Move your trailer tandems back approx 3 holes.
Move your fifth wheel forward about 2 notches.
Should work out close. Verify weights with scale. At 79,560 gross, you don't have much room to play.
Any difficulty with pins moving in/out is 99% caused by forward/backward load on them, with the truck sitting. You have to free up the "front-back load" on the pins by slightly moving cab forward or backward (with trailer brakes locked) to release this tension. It's tedious sometimes to get pins free/centered (not bound up) by holes in both frame and trailer slider mount.
Slide fifth wheel (you really shoulda known this, btw) by:
Lowering landing gear.
Release/dump air bags.
Release fifth wheel SLIDER lock.
Move tractor while keeping trailer brakes locked. -
If it were me I would pull the tandems to the back two holes. Roughly 500# that will transfer the weight to the drives then I would slide the fifth wheel forward 4 spots. Or till I got about 11500 on my steers whith fuel on.

Once you've lowered landing gear, dump air in tractor suspension. Make sure locks engage fully after you're done. Don't hammer them. Gentle gentle. If you have trouble, slide 5th all the way back and disconnect. Then wire brush the teeth on the slide, also with locks disengaged, brush them and spray with WD40 but NOT oil.
From your numbers, I'd say 3 holes back on trailer any then 3-4 forward on 5th. -
Also, be sure to mark your starting points (holes or slots) BEFORE moving anything. lol
You may move it too much unintendingly, and lose track of where you started.
