Care to name those 3 companies?I never heard of anything so silly not to move the fifthwheel if you have to.Thats what those knotches are for.If companies don't want drivers to touch the fifthwheel then buy stationary fifthwheel trks.
KW Cajun Thanks this. -
Yeah lets hear who these companies are. -
Sure when I worked 4 cr England and swift and I now work 4 star Transport 2 name a few. When I came thru orientation we were told that the company put the 5th wheel where they want it THEY UNHOOKED THE AIR LINE AND IF SHOP FIND OUT U MOVED 5TH WHEEL THEY ARE 2 REPORT U WITH POSSIBLE TERMINATION. now sweet pea do u wish 2 no the terminals I got hired out of 2 baby u haven't worked 4 every trucking company and u haven't sat in every orientation class I NO WHAT THEY TOLD US BCAZ THE QUESTION CAME UP if u can't get yo load right take it back 2 shipper or use shippers scale they say weigh every load
-

I came thru swift in 7/2011 in my orientation class swift told us that nobody better not c u riding down the road with yo trailer all the way 2 trk or all the way to last notch they said they would get yo trk number and bring u in yard ask why and it could mean termination caz they said they got trks set 2 where they want it for mpg I don't remember seeing u in my orientation I came thru Memphis,TN terminal what bout u they gave us a revised employee manual what bout u U CAN ARGUE 2 BLUE IN FACE I NO WHAT THEY TOLD US IF U CAN'T GET YO LOAD RIGHT TAKE IT BACK moving 5th wheel really ain't gone do much if yo load is wrong anyway

Let this be a lesson. Learn to slide fifth wheel, trailer tandems, before you need to. Much easier to learn to do it empty, then when you have to, you know the routine. Also, good policy to slide them once in a while when empty just to make sure they work freely.I move mine around about once a month just to keep them from seizing up. Plain water, or water with some dish washing soap will loosen up the pins if they have not been moved in a while.
It is easy to tear up some equipment trying to slide stuff when loaded heavy. I have taken my chances at the coops if only a few hundred over, rather than fight with getting the weight just right. -
I've seen some pretty crazy stuff with regard to sliding tandems and fifth wheels and how equipment gets abused and I'm not at all surprised that some would have a no slide policy.
I've never driven for a mega or minor fleet ( thank god I never had to) so I don't know what it's like but I see them hire some bottom barrel people just as likely as intelligent and conscientious people. But from management point of view, one size must fit all and therefore it has to be the lowest common denominator.
In fact, that was one big motivator to being an O/O. I'm way above average and want to be treated and paid accordingly.
