XDN2 have a RR of 133. Good year's 572 "smartway " is 127. There's not that much difference. According to Michelin, the difference between an XLine Energy D (RR 109) and an XDN 2 is estimated @ less than 2/10ths MPG.
The X-One XDN2 which is very popular in the US, is almost identical.
Now take along hard look at my Avatar. That's the hill on the show. " Highway through Hell ". It's 1 hour from my house and I drive it, and others like it, regularly. Do you think I care about 2/10 "estimated" MPG ?

Also, the fuel cost to run the XDN2 vs. X Line Energy D (what a long name!) is less than the difference of 2 MPH. Not "astronomical " by any stretch.

I use Michelin on my steering axle. Like good tires on the drives. I ain't getting into a tire war/ Ford. Chevy thing. If I need the truck to turn, they seem to have the best grip for me.

In my mind there are two types of tires. Michelins and the other ones.
not4hire and Blind Driver Thank this. -
Thanks for posting those links. I just put new XDN2's on my drives last night and aired them up to 100psi, because that is what I have always ran everything at. Looks like I could drop that down to 85-90psi and get by fine, maybe even get a little softer ride. -
You're gonna like that tire. Not the best on deep snow, but awesome on ice and great all around.

I get the impression that the higher PSI in the drive position is not as critical to tire life.
Oscar got similar milage to mine with the same tire and a 20 PSI difference.
A guy that works with me runs X- Ones on tractor and trailer at about 20 psi higher than the chart recommends. His trailer tires keep wearing funny and cupping badly but tractor tires seem unaffected.
I have a hunch that running empty with big psi is the problem. We deadhead a fair distance from time to time or the trailer stays light while rounding up partials and I think the trailer bounces causing the cupping. Just speculation on my part. -
Will also lower down the PSI in my own drives a little, per that chart.
The Star also has XDN's on it. As far as running those crap X Ones, show me the real world savings when running OD and OW all the time, then I would consider partially ignoring the initial purchase price and the fact that you are screwed if you lose pressure/blow out 1 tire. I would rather have grip when I NEED it, than get another .2mpg myself, although I dont have to chase every penny to make a living neither.....
