I recently attended a trucking school here in Southern California that engaged in numerous what could only be described as illegal actions. out of the entire 160 hour class as a student I spent about 3 hours behind the wheel on the road... actually driving the truck. I spent countless hours doing pre-trip inspections on a truck that rarely ever left the campus/training grounds. During 90% of my skilled training " backing " me and the other students were literally teaching each other how to back up the tractor and trailer, during all of this my instructor and his supervisor the lead instructor were MISSING IN ACTION, all this was taking place after charging us THOUSANDS of dollars to attend a class with almost zero behind the wheel training and students teaching students how to do skilled backing maneuvers. I think there should be something ILLEGAL about this. I can't name the school because I have not talked to legal counsel yet. All of the test that we took during our mandatory classroom 40 hours worth..consisted of 40 hours of videos, and then a test in which the MISSING IN ACTION instructor would literally give us each answer before each test. Then he would enter our FRAUDULENT TEST SCORES into a progress report and ask us to initial by our name. PLACES LIKE THIS SHOULD BE LEGALLY FORCED TO CLOSE THEIR DOORS.. they taught us absolutely nothing, as unbeleivable as this may seem to you, whats even more criminal is that they have a constant flow of new students aspiring to be truckers only preyed upon by this FAKE TRUCKING SCHOOL for no real trucking education, merely a front for a trucking school scam.. I hope that some REALLY ETHICAL HARD WORKING TRUCKERS can give me some suggestions on what I should do...and who I should contact to prevent this CRIMINAL ACTION to continue. The owner of this GROUP of Trucking schools in my opinion is totally aware of whats going on with his instructors and their obvious level of incompetence...who should I contact. SOMEONE HAS TO PUT A STOP TO THESE CROOKS.. masquerading as legititmate truck school instructors. To make matters even worst most of the victims are VETERANS using there GI BILL LOAN to pay for there tuition, or a grant funded via the Veterans Administration. Needless to say the entire chain of command at this organization doesn't think to highly of me..simply because THEY DON'T LIKE THE EXPOSURE..and the negative repercussions should their actions fall into the hands of someone who can put a stop to what their doing. They claim to prepare us for the CDL exam, in reality none of us graduate prepared, far from it. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHO TO CONTACT AND WHERE...any information would be greatly appreciated.

I AM A STUDENT DRIVER... WANTING ONLY TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL TRUCK DRIVER, BUT WHAT I'VE RECEIVED SO FAR IS NOTHING SHORT OF CRIMINAL....

Welcome to CDL mills...there are tons like that. That being said, all CDL school is for is for you to get your CDL. You dont actually learn how to drive until you sign on with a company and they teach you their way.

I am looking forward to making it to that point in my career. 3 students were in my class all 3 of us took the CDL last week...all 3 of us also FAILED...which came as no surprise to any of us, because we knew we were not prepared to pass that exam, when we hadn't even received a small portion of the instruction or experience we needed to come away with our CLASS A but I was able to witness students at the examination site that had went to good schools..and they all seemed to pass the test with NO MAJOR ISSUES... but I'm not giving up yet.. I"m going to keep at it until I am successful but thank you for your response

You should do nothing and here's why.......you will waste time and money trying to take legal action, I'm sure some slip and fall CA attorney will take on your case because God knows there's plenty of them out there. I'm not trying to defend the school because it sounds like you got a raw deal but you will be hard pressed to fight it successfully. Take what you did learn, continue studying and retake the test until you pass it. BTW, pretrip is a big part of the CDL exam. I once worked as an instructor and my students spent a good two hours a day on pretrip. Again, I'm not defending the school but there is always two sides to the story. If you're really p'd off and I know you are, don't waste money and time on an attorney....,,go to the DOT and tell them about their practices. They are the regulatory body in charge of CDL "mills".

The school probably isn't aware this is happening. You need to go to the director of that school ASAP.Otherwise for the remainder of your schooling it'll be you students teaching eachother.Would'nt hurt to have a couple ppl in your class go with you with you turn these guys in.

How did you know the grades were entered wrong? My instructor gave us answeres fight before the test too, but then we kept them and took them home to study. As far as only driving 3 hours I can buy that. The backing, there wers times we sat there and had to teach each other. We had an instructor at every station though. Our lead instructor wasnt always outside either. Not sure you got a legal case but good luck anyways.

Hmmmm...OP did you happen to attend a school known as SAGE? Their instructors down in south carolina and North carolina wouldn't know the difference between a their ### and a hole in the ground. I wasn't impressed by them idiots at all.

Patty, I'm willing to bet the school DOES KNOW......most of these schools are "mills" as people say. That's one reason I didn't last but 6 months as an instructor. I really did care, well at least for those who put forth an honest effort. I once got into it with a student, (one that didn't put forth the effort) and the director told me "look, most of these students will be out of the industry within the first year, all I want is their money." So yes I think the poster has a valid complaint but like I said there are two sides to every story.
