There are plenty of LTLs that are 500+ miles. Milwaukee to Memphis is 630 and Milwaukee to Knoxville is 640 miles. All nighter and you still only get one hour to play with.

I'm glad all the Averitt driver like working here, because I've been with them 10 months and its been the worst 10 months. My biggest problem with Averitt is the miles, for tge last 6 weeks I've averaged 1300 miles. Now before this 6 week period and counting, I was averaging about 2, 000. Like this week its Thursday and i have 950 miles in for week so far and ive been out since Sunday afternoon. I'm also still at my training pay because I can't get FM to route me in for one of the cookouts to get some safety points to get a raise. I also keep asking for a new truck and keep being told the same thing "there are no truck available" my 07 volvo and 790, 000 miles. If there is a secret to making things go better for me Averitt I'm all ears but if something doesn't change once I get my 1 yr of experience in I'm out.

Are you on a dedicated account? As far as the safety points you can contact the safety dept. yourself and request one of the safety members to schedule you a road test. We were told this by a safety member in orientation and he made a point to drive this home.

Not unusual...you are not working for Averitt for a pay check but to cover Averitt freight so they get paid...yea go on flame on...Been with this company longer than most of you have had your CDL...to old to move on...benefits keep me here and they know it...

Yeah, the benefits are better than most and I'm doing pretty good in my 401k. In just over four years I plan on walking away at 62. I figure I can take whatever they can throw at me for that long.

I've been out here long enough to know it can be a lot worse than it is here. To be fair, I had a good dedicated gig with Averitt (Mercedes) for over two years that I had hoped would last until I retired but the run got undercut by Transport America.

I also had a gravy LTL shuttle run for a few months while a driver was on medical leave. I can only hope something else good pops up for me in the future, but if not I will just stick it out.

You're right...When I started with Averitt over 10 years ago a bad week was 2000 miles averaged at that time 2500...now my average week is 1700...on a good week 2000 miles...and I don't have many good weeks...Averitt benefits are very good...they know their work force needs these benefits and use it to their advantage...with the average age of the truck drivers at 55 years old they know that is what keeps them with them...and they are right...in 10 years there is going to be a panic in the trucking industry they just can not attract younger drivers to give up their lives to sustain their bottom line...hang out at any truck stop and you will see and hear a large volume of foreign speaking drivers...they are recruiting foreign drivers to drive here in the US for so many months then back home to their countries...if you think the driver shortage is bad now this is nothing...

I started with them 2 years ago. When I started with the fleet manager I had, it was good money. 800 to 1000 a week after taxes. Then that fleet manager was moved over a different section. The 2nd fleet manager a good week was 400 after taxes. The last 6 months I could have worked at McDonald's and brought home the same amount of pay.

I told them my health card was coming up for renewal. They waited till the day before it expired to send me to the office they wanted me to go to. When I got home Saturday there was a letter in the mail box stating that my CDL was revoked because I didn't send in a form to the state stating my health card was renewed.
While trying to get that fixed. They let me go and proceeded to tell every one I quit. Wasted my time with unemployment. Lost my stuff on the truck. Like several said. The insurance is good. But the rest of it blows chunks.

They all so tell you during orientation that when your 14 hours is up your done for the day. Wrong. I was on paper. They would still route me to where I couldn't get there on time. There was one of the big wigs came in during orientation and told us we would get 10 bucks for every trailer drop. I had several drivers tell me the same.
I have yet to see the drop pay and you could drop 3 or 4 trailers a day.. Not to mention double drops.
There just the same old sorry trucking company with a different name on the door.

That's what I'm doing GT, I'll be 62 next month, then it's going to be re evaluated every 3 months. I have had going times here and met some really NICE people in my last 10 years here, but I have some real horror stories to tell and Averitt has more than it's share of real DUD'S!
