Good discussion, thanks guys. I think the easiest way to tell what the switch is doing is to disconnect it, like was mentioned earlier, and see which position flows air. Not sure about your truck but on mine it's easiest to pull the dash panel off and check it there.
I got stuck on my last job site but having outriggers let me pick the back up and stuff rock under the wheels. Still wasn't easy but I got out on my own. I'd like to get locking diffs if I can. Might already have them, there are some disconnected air lines back there that I don't know what they do. -
It is air operated, I think, a mechanic can disable it to prevent abuse by unhooking the air hose from the power divider.
You should be able to tell a difference by having the system full of air and using the switch with the engine off so you can hear the air, or maybe try unhooking the hose.Air off means it's unlocked if I remember right. -
My truck won't supply air if the parking brake is applied.

Three pages in and we still don't have the answer. Turn key on and play with the switch. When the indicator for power divider comes on, that is locked.

I guess I'd figured that was obvious enough that he'd have mentioned a light if it was working. But valid point. I thought about trying to explain the differing sounds of charging vs releasing the pressure in the line, but decided that wouldn't be a fun task over the internet. My onomatopoeia skills are lacking!
puncher Thanks this. -
Doesnt work. -
Flip the switch up it doesnt make a sound. Flip it down it makes a air escaping sound.puncher Thanks this. -

A power divider can remain locked even with the switch/valve in the unlock position.
