For the first time in my life as an O/O i am grossing around 2,000.00 a day PLUS on 600 hub miles.Today i ran 300 miles and made 1250.00.Yesterday i did 321 miles and made 1985.00...Today i am making 1550.00 going up and 950.00 coming back.Today will be a 610 mile journey...
So it can happen..Its all about ''finding'' the right people with the right contracts..There are many many scum bags out there trying to make alot of profit off a hard working trucker..

No company out there dispatching o/o's is going to pay worth a crap, especially dry vans. You want to make great money with a van, better rates than flats and steps??? you have to be self dispatching to have any chance at that. There's no other way. Of course you'll never see the volume flats do but you can pull much better rates if you apply yourself. You have to be quick thinking and have some trucking wits about you to pull rates with a van. I don't think it's something that can be taught either. You either grasp it or you don't. Some real people out here do make great money with vans. Most pulling vans don't though. That's from being clueless and/or counting on someone else to get the rate...

I keep very accurate records of what I do with my van. Bill Hood's seen the ledger numbers as have a handful of other people on this forum. You see my black KW sometime yell at me on the radio and I'll be glad to show you the book with 2 years worth of data on every single load with a $2.20+ rate to the truck after all deadhead and Bill's cut off the top. I don't just pull this stuff out of my ###. I'm out here doing it.

He can't even figure out one of the easiest markets in the country for a dry van and questions what anyone else can do.

What if I dont want to spend my time on finding loads. Or doing my oil changes. Or taxes. If not dispatching myself is my biggest problem I am a very lucky man because for me it works just fine. Also its very flattering
of you to think I could do better . Your advices would be applicable for an independent guy, not for me. At least for now. Also it is difficult to listen to someones advice who think they are entitled to call everybody dumb and clueless just because they make xtra 20 cpm. Too many variables will affect your net also to say you are doing much better in the final run.
As far as networking or buying your own trailer that comes with time. You could come up to a Swift rookie driver and say he sucks and his co too ... Everything is relative you know.
while you shop for those higher paying loads I go for a run or study espanol. Everybody has different goals in life . Money is not everything.
The point of my first post was that compared to an independent owner my cost per mile is less. So running for the same or slightly higher rate does not favor them significantly.Last edited: Oct 21, 2013

For me truck driving is just a step. The only question I have how people spend a lifetime in this industry and cant retire if their life depended on it.
