Trucking companies track all sorts of numbers associated with truck costs and driver performance (miles, profitability, revenue, on-time performance, etc). Stay in the top 10 percentile for all them and you'll get noticed.

Don't be a "problem child" for your driver manager. If you are at a larger company it is a little bit harder to stand out, but NOT impossible. If a driver manager has 30 drivers he may have 6-7 that he knows can do the job, if he only has 5-10 drivers he knows who to depend on. That is the one compliment I keep getting is that "I just give you your load, and unless you have a problem I never hear from you again."

If you get on with a Good Company, you won't stick out unless you are a Screwup.

There are a lot of companies that have their own in house driver rating system on their computer. My last company I was an 8 out of 9. I asked why I wasn't a 9. My boss said nobody is a 9, lol. On the other hand there wasn't many 8's.

As far as national recognition it's the same companies over and over in the competitions. $$$$$$ Knees $$$$$$ ATA $$$$$$. :)

Keep a clean record, be dependable, be on time, don't argue and you'll be deemed a good driver.

Like xls said it's easier to win the screwup of the year award.

I am usually considered a "top driver" because I don't turn anything down and run like my butt was on fire. That said, when you are late or screw up, they notice that more. There is always a downside!

Do your job without winning do extra when you can/ volunteer to help out when others wont/ depending on what type of trucking you do be as productive as possible when it comes down to it the bean counters love when a driver shows good production numbers and when you get a chance help other drivers I mean it is all comman sense

A Covenant driver did that a few years ago. Didn't go over well. I don't suggest that!
