My X g/f is from Davie FL. She had just moved here to lovely little Kansas right after we met. It was actually kind of fun to see the changes in her as she became acclimated to our weather and way of life.

First was Spring. Every time it thundered she would climb the walls and start plans to for a new storm shelter. I think she was actually terrified (and quite certain) that the tornado's would come to whisk her away at any moment. Never happened of course, but it took her two Springs before she let go of that fear.

Summer, she couldn't believe it could actually get that hot any where. She melted!

Fall, anything below 60F and she needed a winter coat, snow boots, hat, gloves you name it we had to guy buy it. Anything below 50F she locked up solid and could not be moved.

Winter, her first snow she freaked. 5:00am a 27 year old gal was bouncing off the walls like a 6 year old at Christmas. First time in my life I ever made a snow man before 6am. I don't think we spent an hour inside that entire day. We went sledding, we made snowmen, we made snow angels, we made snow cones, we did doughnuts in empty parking lots on and on it went. Anything she had seen on tv or read in a book we did that day. Apparently she got over the fact it was only 20F outside lol.

Beyond the changes of season there were a couple other life changes for her. We were in a grocery store one day, and a little old lady had stopped to visit with her then 1 year old daughter. She (the g/f) freaked. She nearly ripped the head off that poor unsuspecting granny for talking to her child. Apparently where she comes from that's something you just don't do unless your are a bad intentioned purpose. A short year later she learned that not everybody was a bad person, and some people are actually good.

Personally, I think palm trees are the coolest things I have ever seen.

I have a stupid question. Why does the number of posts required to send private messages keep changing?

I had been sending private messages then got stopped because I had to have 40.

Now maybe I am at 50 so that I can send the message that I wanted to send. If anyone knows why I would like to know.

It does not thunder when it snows...we got 2 inches today and it was windy...brrrr
Well I lived in Minnesota, Nevada and Now North Dakota...I love something about each state...I mostly love Minnesota. There are trees, that change colors...bright yellows, browns reds and shades in between! The people are genuinely nice...without being creepy! You can actually get to know your neighbors and like them! the 4 seaons gives you something to look forward to! Even if we complain about the snow and cold that comes with it...keeps the riff raff away! There are lakes as wonderful as a you can imagine...fish, swim, and boating! Camping if you like that is always a memorable experience... you can actually see stars at night...instead of a glow from all the lights and there isn't any smog! It rains, thunders...all the fun stuff you can see things pop out of the dirt and grow! You can let kids go out and play and not have to constantly worry if they are still out there! We have lighthouses...in the NE corner...we have miles of farmland, yet there are cities with tall buildings as well! Red Wing is absolutely the coziest bigger town you will ever drive thru! Duluth...absolutely amazing being on one of the great lakes...People come to Minnesota from miles around...on cool evenings you can build fires outside in your backyard...have friends over and laugh until your sides hurt! Canada is close by...beautiful across that border as well...fun to visit! The most harmful bug is the pesty masquito....THAT'S all! No ####roaches...no black widows, no brown recluses...no secadas! It's nice! In Minnesota you can actually breathe...live life and enjoy it to the fullest. I have been in 40 states...Minnesota best by far!

    I second Minnesota! :biggrin_25525:

But be prepared for extreme weather. When it's cold it can be really cold, and when hot, it can be really hot. But missingmymr is right, people are generally nice here. And no ####roaches! Grrr, I hate those things. It seems like there's a lot of them in Texas, though I was there for only about a week visiting friends. Lots of flying bugs in the summer though. (Hate bugs of all kinds!)

I recall reading somewhere someone complaining about traffic in the Twin Cities. I have to say from a 4 wheeler point of view traffic is nice in MN, much better than in California or Chicago, or Florida! People are courteous for the most part. Though there's a lot of cars (and trucks) just flying past me when road is slick and I didn't dare to go faster, as even a little application of the gas will spin the wheels. Maybe they're just better drivers than me.

I don't know about from trucker's perspective though. It's possible that we're completely ####### when dealing with big trucks!
