Yep, was exactly why it was soo easy to fix the bumper. Only took my body weight and a foot stomp from the rear of bumper through the wheel well to fix. Speed is important. Or rather lack thereof. If only to limit damage. Which is why was moving so slow. Still no excuse to not GOAL that time. If they fix/don't fix, I'll be beating myself up for a very long time. I might ask to keep the ripped off piece of fiberglass to frame in a shadow box, along with a pic of the truck as a constant reminder of what I did and what I need to do better from then on.

For the record, most of us safety guys are pretty cool

I'm not counting on that, but it's good to know. I deserve whatever decision comes down for this. Just hoping the rumor I heard about Close Quarters Training isn't warranted about Marshfield. I heard it's a tough course. Just enough space to barely maneuver the truck and that's it.

When I was in dispatch I had several drivers go through close quarters, all of them passed. It's more educational than anything else, or at least it was. I have no idea how they're doing things now. However historically this time of year is difficult for recruiting as many drivers don't want to switch jobs when the freight is slow, so they'll be less likely to let you go. My guess is that you're going to do just fine. You're thinking all the right things and know what to do if you find yourself in that situation again.

Its a good course to do. I wish i would have had more backing training at RDTC, learned a lot of it on my own using the "guide words" i was taught like never blindside, goal, watch the tandems...lol....

a few weeks ago i had to drop a trailer at sysco in baraboo wisc, theres one spot and it's pull through and virtually no room to set up for it, just had to do it slow and creep it in there. mirror like 1/2 inch from the other trailer so back end clears.

I went through some close quarters training with my re-hire and it was very helpful. I wish it was part of the hiring process when I got hired the first time.

This is one of the close quarters training set-ups. It is very helpful to do it with an instructor in Marshfield.

Hope it's more an educational thing. Think I already had the worst dock of my life and it wasn't the one I messed up on. Up in La Crosse at the Home Improvement place up there, they basically had me dock the 53" butt up to a dock meant for a Class B style truck. I creeped it up and in, but only way to land it up there was with the tractor 90 degrees at the finish. When it was in place, had 2" remaining room between building across the street and truck mirror. Creeped, GOAL, Creeped, GOAL, Creeped, GOAL---repeat more times than could count. When done, shut down a street used by employees of the business and Class B's. Wished I had some cones and street closed signs for that place though.

Kinda hope I get to do in Gary. Familiar surroundings and have a Safety meeting to get to also. 2 days from now, I'll find out. Also have a phone call coming soon too. To record my account and hear my lecture.

Guess I can see where it adds up over the course of a year. I certainly don't think you get rewarded on your scorecard to make up for the loss of miles. You have me re-thinking the cruise usage.
