Is anybody really making enough profit?

When it comes to living in CA I can only quote Bill Clinton, " I feel your pain."

 

Oh, now just rub it in.

 

I guess you can look at it that way since I don't have my own trailer and have no trailer expenses. But I am leased to a company and must pull their trailers.

 

lol, I really enjoy the scenery there. Well, the northern and coastal parts any ways.

 

I looked into power only, one was Power Source Combined Transport. They said the average was $1.06 pm $.80 the lowest and up to $2.00 and change for the high. But they don't pay Bobtailing. I figured I would barley make enough to run a new tractor and my 379 is too old for them.

 

I can go home, and stay there for any amount of time I choose. As long as I make the truck and insurance payments they don't care. However, stitting at home don't pay the bills. That's a fact regaurdless of who you lease to or even if you are independent. Sitting at home for to long leads to business failure. It's the nature of this beast we call OTR.


I give up some freedom to choose the destination of the loads I pull, but I gain in the ability to have steady miles, i.e. I don't have to sit and wait for the load that will at least allow me to break even so I can move my truck, and guess what, that might mean I will have to go someplace I don't want to.I don't have the headache of looking for and booking those loads. Nor do I have to worry if the customer/broker will pay.

 

Heh, it's the same for the dump biz too.

 

As for having older equipment, that's a personal choice. I bought mine new in Aug. '06 through the company I'm leased to. This is an out right purchase and not a lease. I used their bank for financing and therefore must keep the truck leased to them until the note is paid. However, I can pay off the note at anytime with no penalty and go elsewhere if I so choose.

Again I utilized their purchse power to buy my truck. It is a 9400i Skyrise 72" sleeper International Eagle package. The purchase price was $88,500. The same truck at a dealer would have been over a $100k. The truck was financed at 7.5% for 60 months. I have excellent credit and being a first time truck buyer no one else would finance me for less than 13%
