Hey all just passed class A Friday 4th on my way to TMC 14th I was going to take my car but would be a problem as well as twice the cost to get it home if I went out with a trainer.
I think I am going to fly and just suffer not being able to get to the shops
Good luck everyone

I have enjoyed reading this thread. I, too, am excited about the prospect of being hired by TMC when I get out of TDI in January. I hope that you are still around since this thread has kind of gone inactive. Question - were there any women in your class? I believe I am up to the challenge of a flatbed - strong and in good shape and all. I called and they said they do hire women, so I was just wondering if any were in your class. I am one of those who will stick it out and I can certainly prove that to them during the training time.

oh, yes, one more important question - does TMC have a particular boot requirement? Do they require safety toe or just whatever the driver chooses? Thanks! Trying to plan ahead and budget for what I will need.

Howdy. I am Leaving for orientation/training this weekend and saw your post under the TMC thread. First off I am not posting this to discourage you in any way!!! That being said I wanted to tell you what I have seen personally going through truck diving school with TMC and please keep in mind I am by no means an expert on TMC's female hiring policies. TMC is tough for females to get into, yes they have females working for them but every female that has went to my school and applied has gotten turned down for some reason. Please do not let this discourage you!!! Just wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect. So in your Application process be diligent, keep on them to show your interested. make sure you can lift a 120 lb tarp from the floor to the bed of the trailer ( above your head will work unless your very tall). I for one would love to see more females in this industry especially on skateboards, but be ready for them to put you through your paces and don't let that discourage you!
Musicmaker60 Thanks this. -
Most of the big steel companies that TMC pull out of require steel toe boots, safety glasses, reflective vest and hard hat. If you don't have one or all of these items, they will not load you. TMC supplies all but the boots.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!Musicmaker60 Thanks this. -
I do not expect to have to do less than everyone else, but I do not expect to have a standard raised with the sole purpose of it then being impossible for me to meet as an excuse to keep me out. btw, lifting 120 lbs over one's head would be difficult for some men as well if they have not been working out. -
The lumber tarps weigh between 120 lbs and 130 wet and I want to think you will be lifting one of those onto the deck of the trailer during the physical requirement test. I'm not trying to scare you off but there are some guys that struggle with this part. This is a go/no go test. You are required to get his done as it is something you will routinely do as part of the job. You must also be able to jump up onto the trailer from the side unassisted and then lift the tarp up onto a 6' tall coil and push it over the top of the coil.
Good luck! -
hm . . . nice to know. So the added weight just accounts for it being wet. That makes sense. Would climb be the same as jump onto the truck bed? I'm sure you guys aren't Olympic athletes doing the high jump LOL. I mean, the flatbed is about 5 feet off the ground . . . now several people have said they had to step up 30" or something like that as part of their physical tests, and put the tarp on a 6' shelf, but nothing about a free standing 5' leap. This is enlightening. No one else has mentioned some of the things you are. Maybe not all companies have the exact same tests.
