It was a small outfit. I got that job in 1999 and stayed till 2003. It was called a few things. Go Trucking, Wrag Time Transportation and then Vision Express bought them and ruined the company! Before Vision bought them they had good pay, benefits and no top out pay. In April of 2003 Vision switched it over to an all owner operator fleet and I walked. The last truck I had was wide open because my co driver had the most seniority and my run was leave late Sunday night and return Friday afternoon. It was perfect. A lot has changed in trucking since then and not for the better. Trucking used to be fun, running with the CB on and talking all the lingo to the other truckers. Running in long convoys looking out for bear traps and using a radar detector and popping Truckers Love It to stay awake, when they still had Ephedra in them. Now it's just a boring regular job for me. I never cared much about the pay as long as I made 1000 a week. It was the job I lived for. Now I just go in to work and get in my piece of junk truck and make the same old boring runs every night. I make more money and my benefits are paid and are really good but I just don't have fun anymore. Trucking was never a job to me before, now it is.

Highly doubt you'd wanna move to NY... even I don't like NY lol. Although there's other states I dislike more than NY. Plus if I leave UPSF I don't think it would be for another trucking job.

I met a truck driver, (mid 40's), here in Wichita KS who works for UPS Freight, as a local driver, making 24 stops a day, single 48 foot trailer. He mentioned that it is the absolute best paying job, with the best benefits package, that he has ever had in his 22 years as a truck driver. The one downside is that "too much idle time" as taking more than your allotted time at lunch, etc., will get a driver written up. The driver must keep moving at all times to deliver and/or pick up the freight on time. The drivers are tightly monitored.

The UPS Freight driver emphasized that while UPS Freight is owned by United Parcel Service (UPS), it is a separate company with separate payroll departments, separate management, separate dispatch, separate uniforms, and separate contracts with Teamsters Union. Also, unlike UPS, UPS Freight does NOT have package handler trucks. It is strictly all tractor trailers; singles, doubles, and triples.

Both UPS and UPS Freight have one thing in common, more job applicants than jobs available for the job applicants. Applying for a job at UPS or UPS Freight is like playing the lottery; one must hit it right at the right place at the right time. This was mentioned to me by the UPS Freight truck driver. He mentioned that he is going to do everything in his power to try to retire out of that company. The turnover rates are low to non-existent.

The driver mentioned that he has driven both OTR and local for other trucking companies, in the past.

The UPS Freight driver mentioned that if a young man or woman gets 2 or more years under his or her belt, OTR or LTL, he or she may want to CONTINUOUSLY apply for an LTL position with either UPS or UPS Freight, only because they have some of the highest pay and best benefits package in the trucking industry. Also, the driver mentioned that the younger you are when getting hired on by either UPS or UPS Freight, the better ones chances are of getting increased seniority.

Again, the UPS Freight truck driver emphasized that if an applicant does get on with either UPS or UPS Freight, BE PREPARED TO WORK HARD BOTH ALL DAY AND EVERY DAY!

    SIDE NOTE:

    1) The UPS Freight truck driver mentioned that he keeps the inside of his truck CLEAN and CONTRABAND FREE from the time he gets inside his truck to the time that he turns it back into the terminal, in addition to the required daily inspections of his truck on the outside.

    2) The driver mentioned that he TOTALLY ABSTAINS from all alcoholic beverages and will continue to do so as long as he works for UPS Freight. He also mentioned that he does NOT take any over the counter, (OTC), medicines to totally avoid the possibility of a FALSE POSITIVE should a random drug screen come about.

    3) The driver mentioned that he is EXTREMELY CAREFUL who he associates with to avoid getting into any trouble whatsoever with the law. The UPS Freight truck driver mentioned that he is at a point in his life that HE MUST PROTECT AND SAFEGUARD BOTH HIS CDL AND HIS JOB!!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

It's not hard to get in with UPSF at all. I went for my interview, got my road test, physical and drug test the same day. The background check takes forever that's the only downfall.

I guess it depends upon the terminal and its location. You were VERY FORTUNATE to have gotten on as soon as you did. IT IS FANTASTIC for having done so.
