Then that officer was in the wrong for disturbing your 10 hour. I always log sleeper. Never log line 1 unless I'm at home. Been DOT'd several times. Never have had it questioned nor have I ever received a log book violation. Like the book says the only time you should log off duty is when you are not responsible for the truck.

You need to read the law. You CAN be off duty in a truck while responsible for the load.

i log off duty. never been questioned yet.

if i'm on a load taking a 10. then i use both. if i'm going to be parked longer then 10. i stay off duty. sometimes i'll throw sleeper.

if i have nothing to do. i'm off duty. and using pc.

i never take my receipts with me. clerk throws them in the trash. i use my debit card.

i've said this before. it don't matter what you do. it don't matter if you run paper or box. lawyers WILL find someting to use against you. the box is not your savior. there's NONE of us driving 11 straight. and logging 10 sleeper. back and forth. on a consistent basis. day after day, week after week.

A man can drive himself crazy worrying about the little stuff. Make the log dept happy as far a SB time goes. If it's 10 in the truck it's SB, home it's Offduty. No audit will dig deeper unless you done something like turn in a receipt for a light bulb. Do company reimbursements outside that time.

I never seen such but if I ever went in the store and come out and there was a trooper standing beside my truck I would go back in the store. I'm good at waiting! How much time does that trooper have?

I did that once sorta kinda, we had a diesel bear gunning for us because former company policy was to run heavy, I set him up by taking a legal split and showing up logging the way it was done, but I went into the truckstop, got something to eat and looked at a dealer display of new trucks, spent 3/4 of an hour purposely making him wait because I knew he would be waiting for me, he saw my partial load, so there was no doubt it was under gross weight, asked about a tire on the trailer, it was a different trailer, but I said yes, as far as I knew, but go ahead and check these. He checked my logs and told me to get going, I think he got in trouble for waiting so long for me because less than a quarter mile later, he passed me on the on ramp, and I have only seen him once since then; he pretty much left us alone after that.

Sir, that link does not support what you're saying. Hypothetically, I'll just assume that you are correct...since we're supposed to log all time not driving and not on-duty as off duty then why haven't the DOT removed line 2? When are we supposed to use line 2? If what you're saying is correct line 2 is unnecessary to even be an option, correct? Instead of posting a link would you please copy and paste the entire regulation and number for all to see so that no one has to go searching for a rule that does not exist?

I also want to learn more about this.

However, line 2 is still an absolute requirement for 8/2 split.
