Anyone running LED headlights?

Then throw on a bull bar with some high performance driving lights and light it up like an Australian Road Train.

 

I have them. When I first got them, I got lowbeams first, thinking that if I ran into snow, I would still have my highbeams to melt through ice buildups. Well, ice buildup did dim them a bit, but they still worked well enough to be useable...so I bought the highbeams too. Expensive as heck, but they work well for me. I am always looking for more light...especially for the two lane in the dark (even made a post asking about 'moose lights' to illuminate the shoulders and tree lines).

I had HID's that I bought, and ran into a couple problems. First, they wouldn't fit into the headlight buckets without modification. Second they get too hot. Had one of mine decide to burn out and it took part of the wiring harness with it.

Not if you turn them off when you come upon oncoming traffic. That's why they should be relayed into the high beam circuit. Dim the headlights and everything turns off.

 

Only if you're one of those horribly rude types who insists on driving about with all forward beams on all the time (high beams and driving lights) in the faces of oncoming traffic.

 

What brand do you have?

 

I opted for HID lights when I specced my new 579. I think they are only the low beams, primarily because of the detectable color change on high. But they work so much better than ordinary halogen its unbelievable. Trick is to aim them properly. At first, every other oncoming vehicle blinked at me (only once, but still..). After adjusting them down a bit, they are still great and nobody hits me with the high beams anymore and better yet, nobody fails to dim 'em when I blink at them. The Pete system burns all 4 lamps on high beam.

 

If you really want to light up the roadway, use what I use.....

I recommend using one of these wisely and you will never have a problem with the Law. Most deer (and there is more deer on the shoulders than you can see with normal headlights) usually run back into the woods before I get to them with the LED lights on.
