$800.00 to $1200.00 a week --what what -isnt that a company drivers pay --is there something i am missing ? I dont get it - roughly $1000.00 dollars a week A WEEK on these L/P according to the threads i have read -not even a month where you may have some cushion of time to get good loads or get paid. I am just saying these companies must be laughing all the way to the bank.
I am not saying there are not some that can make some money doing this but it seems to be a minimal %. -
[QUOTE="Hang - Man";3648948]How come you get it and some with many years of experience just cant see it is these company's way of having many drivers pay over and over again for the same piece of worn out equipment plus the maintenance on the same equipment and of course just to turn that same equipment back in to the Companies earning themselves bad credit to boot. I read a couple of well written threads where a few lease purchase operators survived but not by much.

I have been self employed in a non trucking career. I also understand that just doing the driving and other BS is 2 full time jobs. The is no time to administer a business properly. In addition, if it is such a wise decision to "buy" a truck, why doesn't the driver just go to his bank and get a loan instead of "buy here pay here" with a trucking company. A trucker is not in business for himself anyway if he is under the authority of another carrier. It is all dildos and a scam. -
Heres the one that drives me insane: They sign the contracts -walk outside - while they wait for someone to roll some big piece of crap up in front of them and tell them here is your truck. OK the smarter ones get picky and reject the first one but always fall for the second piece of crap they roll up. I know these same people probably spend 5 days going over some used $500.00 car mechanically from top to bottom before even considering it yet i have yet to hear anyone taking that truck to the dealer for a top to bottom check. Considering they have to pay for that truck every week no matter what you would think a little more time and yes some money invested on a mechanical check would be a smart move . Is this what is called "Drinking the Koolaid".
I hope i am not offending anyone --but i just dont get it.
So "BondJamesBond" When are you taking a drink . LOL JK.CondoCruiser Thanks this. -

It looks like a roll of duct tape with 10 tires on it!
Sometimes they get a choice of three ragged out trucks. It's always interesting to watch them check them out. They kind of weigh the mishaps. They might kick a tire. This one is better! -
Not to mention, as i see it the L/P people are bringing down the wages in the industry.
1) O/O are getting crushed by the L/P peoples desperation for pulling cheap freight to make that WEEKLY payment which in turn brings down the O/O chance of getting good rates - which in turn screws the very people that want to be O/O (The L/P people).
2) The company driver gets crushed because the companies see that people are willing to drive the trucks while paying for them, paying to maintain them, (not to mention paying for the companies mechanics) then giving them back (not intentionally ) to be sold as used. So this in turn has to bring down the co. drivers wages in general. Win Win for the company.
Its looks to me like a vicious circle by design !HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -
[QUOTE="Hang - Man";3649427]Condocruiser -LOL I dont mean to make fun of the lease purchase peoples misfortune - but some of these used trucks could be purchased directly for the price of a medium grade used car - no ? Not the triple markup after lease deal price.

Can some of these truck be purchased for 15k or so??? Why don't some of these guys just drive company and save up to pay cash???? They should also have 15 - 20k in savings, maybe more, in addition to buying the truck. -
BondJamesBond Thanks this.

I just don't understand why someone would want to be an O/O. To me, it seems the risks outweigh the gains. A company driver can just put in his notice, clean the truck out, and return it to the company. An O/O does not have that option. Another thing to consider is that some vehicles are lemons. A certain number of vehicles will have more serious problems than others, it is just the law of averages. An O/O only has one, and if he gets an "unlucky" truck, he/she is screwed. If a trucking company purchases hundreds, or even thousands of trucks, their risk is spread out. -
I hope that you understand I was being sarcastic about the L/P deal because usually the big companies have it figured out for drivers to pay for their trucks. But for your question of why would anyone want to be an O/O it's more of a lifestyle your not always gonna make more money and trucks do breakdown. But that is why some of us got into trucking because we love it and it's our life not because someone lied to us and said you'll make lots of money and it'll be easy and all you gotta do is be an idiot and hold the steering wheel and do whatever "they" (the big companies) tell you to do, even if it makes no sense
