everybody has different interpretations of light. an empty trailer would be light. a hot shot full load would be light trailer.
your 18k load plus the weight of your trailer. would be closer to a mediuim weight trailer load. but your still pulling a full sized box trailer. and that's not something to play around with in them high winds. like others have said. even half loads have blown over.
in the utah dessert. i've seen full loads laying in the lake.
where is your load going? if it's in nebraska. the wyoming road report says high winds till cheyenne, to which your only 45 miles away. if your going to colorado. the 287 should be a good path to take into fort collins.
i feel sorry for you box pullers. i was in the area 2 weeks ago. 5 days straight of high winds.
since your pulling a box. best to be safe then sorry. and park it. and hope the winds don't last long.
driving in strong wind

Snowwy, this load is actually going to cheyenne which isnt that far but I just didnt want to take the chance. On the way here to the Petro off exit 310 my trailer was all over the place. My next load goes from cheyenne to Denver.

I came through there this morning with 13k in the box. Didn't really have much trouble until I got to the top of the hill east of Laramie about the 325 mile marker. Road sign said "slick spots", should have said " Ice Rink". For about 3 miles solid. That was the only time I really drew up in the seat. Had I known it was gonna be that bad on top would probably have stopped for a little while.

striker Thanks this.

If my trailer is going all over the place, then my next destination is the next truck or rest stop - at a much slower speed.
And at that point, I don't really care about my next load.RERM, KF7WTV and koncrete cowboy Thank this. -
I ran with a couple of other trucks through there and we ran no faster than 60 mph. That felt fairly stable. But my Father in law always told me if you don't feel safe, park it.

You made it through Elk and that's usually the worst part with wind. The winds on Sherman never bothered me too much. Usually the black ice on the east side of Sherman from the blowing snow is the worst part.

I came thru there too...sign does say light trailers not advised...50 mph+ gusts....I had 10k on the
Trailer...
...figured if the rocky mountian doubles that were passing me at 70 mph could do it..id put my big boy panties on and run it too...lol -
Just looked at that area for sunday.....gusts possible 65 mph..think im sleepn in tomorrow morning.

Welcome to one of the more dangerous roads in the country.... Honestly at anything less than 25k in the box with those conditions, I'd probably park.
