ACWs thread, I was a _____, was interesting so I thought one on why we all want to do this would be good.
For me I made the decission last year. I had a wreck and they found a brain tumor when they checked me out at the hospital. The first thing I thought when they told me was I am only 30 yrs old there is so much more I want to see and do. So after the tumor was removed and it was not cancer (thank God) I decided to follow my dream so now I am in truck driving school and will be done near the end of April and will be able to start driving.

Driving is freedom to me. From my earliest childhood memories I loved to sit on my dads lap and steer the car. At the age of 8 I was riding motorcycles and farm tractors at a cousins house. Driving was exhilirating to me. I started "borrowing" dads old cars and cruising around town when I was about 10.

I had to wait until I was 16 to get my license but from that point on I drove everywhere. Listening to my tunes on the radio made the time fly by.

I saw trucks traveling up and down the highways and just knew thats what I would do. I had to wait until I was 21 to go through trucking school and by then I had a wife, 2 kids, and 1 more on the way. I decided to support my young family I had to take the plunge.

16 years later I am comfortable with my career choice and enjoy the traveling. The money is a big plus too! It amazes me just how easy this job is (to me anyway) and I get paid to do it! I guess some of us are just built for this lifestyle (it really is a lifestyle and not just a job).

I needed a job after the military. My rate in the Navy wasn't very technical, so it didn't leave me with many skills to speak of. Driving just happened to be there when I needed it, I guess.

i love to go places, always have. i was always planning a road trip. i even took college courses to be a travel writer-i bombed at that. i was driving through Oklahoma, wanting to do something differant for a living than what i had been doing previously and i saw that MORE MONEY MORE MILES MORE HOMETIME sticker on the back on a trailer. And i thought it out for awhile, reasoning that i liked going places for no real reason. And 2 weeks later i was in Wheel holder School. Best mistake i've ever made ! 10 years later, i still like it. i've had ups and downs, but i still like it. i've stopped driving for periods of time but i am glad to be back when i return.

When I was five I saw the movie Convoy. I didn't know why but I became infatuated with trucks. After riding in my dad's pete C/O I knew this was the life for me. I just wished I had gotten in sooner.

I grew up with construction and while other kids played with Tonkas, my step-dad put me on back-hoes, dozers and in the dumps with his drivers. I can run just about anything out there but driving a truck was so much cooler and you don't get dust in your eyes either.
