After talking to a pretty good recruiter for over six months about a job with JB Hunt, he listened to what I said, and that's important. I agreed to a starting date in NJ, time passed and a few days before I was to arrive, I got a call from JB, not the guy I talked to but someone else. They informed me that there was not a truck available for the job I was after but they could get me into a truck OTR, thanks but no thanks. The first job was not only local but within a hundred miles, NO logging. Guess I will just keep looking.

I was a JB recruiter for many many years. What you experienced was not a "bait and switch". Local jobs like that just dont stay open for very long. Really your recruiter should have explained that to you. When I was there the only way I would put a driver on a run like that if he was ready to come in IMMEDIATELY. If he didnt want to or couldnt, I would explain to him that more than likely that job wont be there and you would have to run something else. At least they told you before you went to orientation.
Its not the recruiters fault. At Jb its impossible to set you up for a job that isnt open. Its pretty much one of those "you snooze you lose" kind of things. If one recruiter was to set you up for a good local job and you couldnt come in for a week or so, then the recruiter beside him finds a driver that can come in immediately, the one who can come in immediately will get the job every time. The recruiting depts job is to fill that position as quickly as possible so there isnt a empty truck there and the customer is happy. Sometimes that isnt the best way for the drivers. But the customer is more important. -
JBHunt calls and offers the locals. They do not hire immediately.
As soon as you say you are ready, they then want you OTR. Typical bait and switch as always. -
It's a moot point anyway, until all the dust fell, too much time elapsed and now I do not have the time needed for the OTR job. I think the trucking industry can just stuff it at this point. I have over thirty years exp. at carpentry, I'll just go back to that, far less lying going on there.
-
I would have left something I have thirty years' experience doing only to retire. It's a good move to leave the trucking industry in the dust. You'll make more and be home every night on top of that.
Now the only question is how much did you spend on driver training? I hope you paid very little or even nothing. -
Again, this is how it works. The local job opens, you might need 4 or 5 drivers on it, and the first 4 or 5 drivers that get into orientation get the job. Its not the first driver who signs up for it, its the first drivers that get into orientation. The most important thing to any trucking company is to get the customers freight hauled and keep the customer happy. Jobs and freight just dont wait on drivers for whenever they are ready to come in.
Believe me, Im not out here to argue about JB and be a cheerleader. I dont owe them anything. I will however, be happy to answer any questions about them. There seems to be a whole lot of misinformation about them on this site. -

You can say what you want. The recruiters are paid based on the numbers they get.
I have dealt with them. I know what they have said. You cannot offer to hire someone for a job expecting them to leave another job, and then claim that it is filled. Get real, this presents a picture of bait and switch no matter how you think it looks.
There is alot of information here and again it is also based on the dealings that people have had with that company. Misinformation concerning the way the company presents itself is the result of the company. -
How can you tell when a lawyer and a JB hunt recruiter are lying ?????
WHEN THEIR LIPS MOVE !!!!! -
But I still have to say that's it reprehensible for the recruiters to market these jobs to someone who feels compelled to leave his current employer the honorable way, knowing full well what's likely to happen as soon as they find someone else that's available immediately. This is beneath even the lowest recruiter types that have disgraced us with their presence.
