Well he was told from the recruiter he can be home at nights at the local companies here in town. CCC is one of them....Like I said, doesn't matter if he is home on weekends. We don't mind, some home time is important to us, and not 3 weeks a year.

Down side for the OP is they are in southern Florida which poses a problem and he may have to stay out longer because its difficult getting a load back out of there without dead heading a long way.

Tell hubby to look into food service companies. (Pepsi, coke- not the kind that goes up your nose though. GFS, Mbm Sygma- dunno if some of these companies are in Fl, but worth a shot). Most times entry level requirements are more reasonable. But I hear the work is hard, but the pay is pretty good. And hubby gets home nearly daily. Look for Tonythetruckerdude on here. He seems to know a little about food service. And he won't bs ya

If he does want OTR you might look into Boyd Bros. To the best of my knowledge you are in their hiring area. They have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance as well.

Do not just think that as a new driver he is excluded from the job he wants. News paper want ads, internet want adds, phone book, food service, dump trucks, road construcktion, bulk, tank, there are local and regional opportunitys no matter you live, he does not have to hire on with a traditional newbie mega company and be out all the time. From day one out of school I have been home every weekend and average 2800 to 3600 miles a week. Be careful of recruiters and be careful of recommendations from your school. They are not concerned with your familys welfare, and never will be. and remember you have to find the good jobs, only the crap ones will come looking for you.

Even a good OTR company with good health insurance such as Melton could work. 6 months experience then he might hire on with Heyl Truck Lines, Zephyrhills as a local driver. Heyl Truck Lines requires 6 months OTR experience. -
My experince with swift. New drivers with swift start at .25 with a raise every three months for the first year. I started out solo averaging $535 a week net. That's with swift taking out $80 and addition $60 in taxes (I have three kids and wife that are claimed). I'm 5 months in and average $670 net. Always with a few high checks ($750) and a low week ($450) when I take home time. I'm due for a raise next month. So that should help.
Please, no one needs to tell me how low this is. I'm aware. So save it.
Anyways, these are the numbers I have personally. I hope this helps, also note that I run hard all the time. I bug my DL constantly for miles. And generally just push everything hard. I also always recap. Don't reset if you can recap. Also make sure to keep on top of stop pay, driver unload, and detention pay.skyviper73 Thanks this.
