Well i went to a trucking school that my company hires directly from, if i were you i would call cassens and ask them which schools they call accredited , im sure they have a list, this way you waste your time or money by going to a school they dont hire from.
Truck man has a key point about age, some states you cant go into certain places or even leave the state without being a certain age, but dont let this deter or stop you from achieving your goal
No i didnt have a hard time find my company (http://www.pmtghome.com) what i did was, i told my student placement adviser that i only wanted to haul cars then she went to work and found a company to hire me.
New to trucking and car hauling, I need some advise!

Yeah, well I don't know if I could get a grant because I already have some money saved up. I will look into it though.

Thanks for the advice WhyDriveTrucks. I will definitely do that. I'm just worried that my age will prevent me from being able to get a job right now, but hey it's worth a shot looking into it can't hurt. When I do go to school I will do the same and hopefully it will work out. Thanks for the advice man it's been really helpful!

Free Bird. I can appreciate the passion you have for wanting to drive an 18 wheeler and haul cars. The big issue is you are too young at this point. You are 18. No one will entertain even an application. Training a driver to be a carhauler is a big investment for that company. They are not going to invest all that on someone not yet 21. Believe me when I tell you, Cassens, Jack Cooper, etc. will not let you fill out an app. at 18. When I was with Hadley Auto Transport, the minimum age was 25.
Sorry to have to tell you. Hang in there, you will soon be old enough.Free Bird Thanks this. -
I think you can use the Pell Grant for truck driving school. like said above make sure its accredited. in the end once you land a CDL job for a reputable company they most likely wont care what school you went to after a year of service. your driving record takes you places. keep a clean record and criminal record, i doubt you have one.

SLANT6- Yeah that is what I figured. I just came on here to get some advice and learn more about car hauling. I want to know as much as possible before I get into it. I was actually planning on waiting until I was 21 to get my CDL, I just was curious about it because one of the other guys on here said to get it at 18 and I was just trying to learn more about that.
The reason I posted this is because on Cassens website, it said that you either needed to have one year of experience, or have graduated from an accredited school. That is what caught my attention, the no experience part. So, I wait until I turn 21 years old to get me CDL, pass everything and do great and be the best in the class, like I plan on doing. Will car haul companies such as Cassen be interested in me and hire me even though I have no experience? The course I plan on taking actually has an "externship" portion which is 280 hrs of driving with a company trainer, so technically I will have a little bit of experience. Anyways, what do you think of my chances of getting on with a car hauling company with no OTR experience?
Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate all the help!!
P.S. - The school I am going to attend requires me to be 21 years old anyways, so I will wait it out. -
Truckman- Yeah my driving record and criminal record is spotless
But the school I am planning on attending requires me to be at least 21 years of age to attend so I will have to wait it out. I don't want to go anywhere else I have heard nothing but good things about this school and I won't go anywhere else.
Thanks again. -
good keep it clean, and like they said either driving experience or a school. there's your answer and foot in the door.

Yeah I plan on doing that. Thanks for the advice man its helped a lot. Now I just gotta wait a few more years, bust my ### and do the best I can do in everything at school and get a spot with one of the car haulin companies.
Thanks again!Chinatown Thanks this. -
You may want to think about another option to learn to drive. The military will teach you and pay you besides. You need to find a way to gain driving experience. It is tough enough learning to haul cars for an experienced driver. I hope it all works out for you.
