Hey out there fellow Mavericks. I made a mistake and to be honest I am a little embarrassed about it. Please understand that my previous driving experience was during a time when the 34 hour reset was not even invented. Here is the issue. It was not my weekend to go home since I go home every other weekend. But, the load I am under got me close enough to the house so that my wife Could drive to come stay with me During my reset. However apparently I was not eligible yet to have another restart since my last one and now I am running recap. What is the rule that prevent you from taking 34 hour reset closer together. I don't understand because it seems to me that DOT would not mind if you had more rest than what you were supposed to have. This seems kind of stupid to me. I don't mind running recap but it does constrict your hours a little bit more then compare to running off of a fresh 70hour. Like I said I know where I went wrong but I don't understand why its wrong. At least its a short work week with thanksgiving so I should be OK.

168 hr from the start of your last reset which is 34 hrs before you started your current 70. You may only run recap if you haven't gone over your 70.
CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
If you are running recap you should be able to manage 3-6 weeks of driving before a restart is necessary unless you work 12-14 hours every day.
To answer your question you have to have 168 hours (7 full days) in between restarts. -
That's stupid. So the rules are so we don't drive tired but we cant take 34 hour break closer together. So stupid. Anyway at least I know now thanks.

Wait a minute.... Now I am confused. I dont think I have ever heard of this. I aint saying it aint true, I am just saying I missed this bit of info.
So you guys are saying that if I start my week on Monday, then get sick or take a couple of personal days & come back on Friday, its NOT a 34 hr restart? I cant start a new 70 hr week on Friday?
I always thought that if you had a 34 hr break in there (anywhere) which included two "1 am to 5 am" or whatever the times are... It was a 34 hr reset...???
I thought you could work 3 days & off three days if you wanted to.. or on two & off three or anything you wanted to & count it as a 34 hr restart as long as you took 34 & included the two AM times stated in the rules.
I guess somebody is gonna have to explain this to me... in rookie terms... Please. -
if for example you begin a restart at say 2100 friday it would end on sunday at 0500, satisfying the two consecutive 0100 to 0500 time periods now required by the rule. The example above is 34 hrs exactly. Only one credited per 168 hr time period.
You would then be eligible to take another one at 2100 the following friday. 168 hrs from the beginning of your last restart. You, of course ,can shut down at any time before that but it doesnt really count toward the restart total 34 hour time. So in reality the restart you take is a part of the 168 hour total.
I use elogs at my company and even though I begin my weekend early to midafternoon on fridays , the Qualcomm has the start and next eligible times that show 2100 to 0500 regardless of how long my break actually was (typically end my week around 1300 on fridays), in my case usually 60 some hours.(dedicated is GREAT!!!!)
if i have a last restart time, I can take the time in the middle of the week , its just not credited as restart eligible. New rules, have to live with them unless the talk about congress stepping in comes to pass.
I hope I explained it simple enough.Grumppy Thanks this. -
grumpy you are correct. You have to have a certain amount of time between your 34 hour reset. It is so stupI'd huh? so even if you were shut down for 34 hours which included the required time frames, if you don't have the 168 hours between that and your previous restart it will not restart your 70 hour clock. This has to be the stupidest rule I have ever heard of. I mean seriously, what is the logic behind That lol

Hummmm....... So, since I work Monday through Friday, I get off on Friday afternoon, but my reset doesnt actually start until Monday? So, technically, If I start my 70 hr week on Monday morning at 8 am, & get off Friday at 5 pm through 8 am Monday, I cant go to work because I dont have a legal 34 hr restart?
I mean, if I have to have a 168 hr between restart, I wont have that 168 until Monday. So I cant go back to work yet? I gotta start my 34 reset on Monday instead of going back to work???
I gotta be missing something here...
Again, I aint saying yall aint right. I am just saying, I dont get this. I aint understanding something... -
If not, in this case, what would happen is you would continue your work week on Friday, until whatever hours you worked on Monday fall off. And if all you worked was Monday only, you should still have plenty of hours on your clock where it really shouldn't be a concern.

You also have the ability to reject a restart if its close together. But today on my Elog I tried that and it didn't give me a restart. So not sure whats going on.
I took a restart on Wednesday it was finished at 5 am Friday morning. I drove 6 hours and and the meat plant is slow so I have set here for 40 hours even in the 1am-5am zone and it hasn't given me a reset since I rejected the reset I took on Wednesday. Not sure if I had 6 or so hours available though to drive on Friday from previous log, but I'm sure I did. Guess I have to deal with safety Monday. Had 63 hours now that I rejected the first reset I only have 21 hours but still some good time coming off the reset.
