I would like advice on the which company to join. I recently graduated from CDL school and obtained my class A. I also have Hazmat endorsement. I am getting my passport and TWIC card. I have a pre hire for Maverick glass division and am currently waiting on a spot for orientation. I also have heard from Schneider and Werner. I like physical work so I am not just looking to drive.

    Briguy Thanks this.

Sounds like out of your list either go to maverick if your looking for flatbed or reefer or schneider if you want to go bulk/tanker or van. Screw Werner.

Why go to OTR companies if you like physical work? Go LTL or Food Service.

I have applied for local food delivery but without experience they will not even return my calls. Benefits are also as important to me as pay , medical , 401K especially.

I'd say Maverick. They have great equipment and most of their drivers speak highly about them.

Flatbedding is a great way to go if you love working. I wouldn't do it any other way. I have heard great things about Maverick. I see their glass division trucks a lot. Of course their fleet in 100% automatic so you wont be shifting gears.

Maverick is a great company but I've hauled guardian glass before out of corsicana and kingsburg and they can be a nightmare to deal with. So I'd recommend maverick but maybe check out the flatbed division instead.

Just a thought. Since you like to work have you ever thought about doing HHG (Moving). There is a great company in Sterling Va called JK Moving. You get 401k, Profit Sharing, Insurance, and a few more nice benefits. Pay for company drivers is between 18-20% of the 100% linehaul, and $18-20/hr for extras (Packing, Shuttle). Fuel, labor, and all the other fun parts are paid for by them. All trucks are Volvo 780's, governed to 75mph. Best part is they are a family owned-ran company where everybody knows everybody.

Doesn't UPSFreight have a flatbed division in Smyrna or LaVergne? They used to anyway.

The twic card will help with Refer companies. As for experience, any company that is willing to hire you is good to start with. The first six months of driving is just like continuing education. You will not make much at first. It is more important to choose a good second job.
