I have to thank you for your excellent thread!
I'm a wannbe studying for my CDL after working corporate for so many years and being laid off for corporate profit.
I'm seriously thinking of oil field driving when I get my CDL. I just have to convince the Mrs.
BTW, when do you get home time? I live in the DFW area, So I was thinking I could make a quick run home.
Do the Man camps have WI-FI? How is Cell Phone reception?
Thanks in advance,
Jim -
In Midland I'm home every night after a 10-12 hour day...plus two days off every week.

Well, I can't answer for, or about, all Man Camps (MC), but the one that I am in DOES NOT have wi-fi. I had to buy a spot (from Verizon, they have the bet coverage in this area) and that gives me GREAT internet. Cell phone (again Verizon) is excellent.
We do have free Dish TV and a 40" HD in the Recreation Room. Plus an exercise bike.
If I were you, if you can do it, bring the wife with you. Not to the MC of course. But, with two salaries, you should be able to swing an apartment here and keep your place in DFW. It would be a pain to drive to DFW every time that you are off.
I would try to find a job where you work for several days straight and then are off for a week or so. The issue might be that your options are limited if you (like me) are a Newbie CDL Driver.
BTW, we have options on our work schedules, but the most time that we get off at any one time is 2 days; so to drive to DFW would be tight. -
The apartments in TX are not too expensive...especially if you're making $70k or more annually.
I'm a noob too, but like I said, home nightly and two days off each week...no need for mancamping. -

LOL I had an image right out of Road Warrior, out in the desert in a makeshift camp.
But I'm sure the surrounding town has all the amenities anyone could want to buy.
Verizon and hotspots are everywhere!
Moving the wife is out of the question, she's established here in Denton.
I'm looking for something with 4 - 6 weeks on, maybe 1wk off.
I know I can go for 3 months on before a break(ex Army), but I have yet to figure out how to explain this to the wife.
Thanks again,
Jim -
Jim, unless you're just wanting a change of scenery, you might not have to relocate. Look around Bridgeport/Decatur for oilfield jobs. There's still some activity in that area.
