Drivers License at Shipper/Receiver

All that's needed to steal someone's id is any combination of,name/address/ssn/dln/,then you can go to us search,or another website like them and pay their fee and you got all of their info.My brother in law ( a chief of police in one of the towns around here) and my husband were discussing this because my husbands id was stolen awhile back while he was in iraq.(kinda hard to buy something in a store when your actualy in another country,who ever did it went and bought a big screen tv at some rent a center using his id ,we did get that removed from our credit thank god.) And it's sad that it's so easy to do that way.So in the long run it doesn't really matter if you give it up or not in my book,if they want your id info there are ways.

 

actually, going into a private facility such as a shipper or receiver they can pretty much require anything such as showing your DL or even searching your truck for weapons, contraband or such. you might remember seeing some of these signs posted at the guard shacks or gates when you drove up. they dont have to let you into a private facility you are there for their benefit not yours

 

By law you are not required to show your license to anyone other than state goverment,federal goverment or local goverment authorities.However,as a matter of policy,most companies will request some form of I.D. when picking up a load.They just want it to be on record that you,the driver,picked up the load.What they don't want,is someone who claimed to be with said company and infact was not.This help's them by reducing their liabilty and legal issues if the freight never arrived at it's destination and in fact that you were not even employed with the company that was hired to haul or brokered the load.Your company I.D. should be O.K.,but confirmation via phone or fax may be required.One other thing,before I ramble on too long,shippers do indeed need to know that you have a haz-mat endorsement before loading haz-mat.They will need you to show you have this on your license.As far I.D. theft is concerned,don't worry about it.If someone want's your I.D. bad enough they will proably get it.Sometimes I wish they would steal my identity so I could be someone else.Trucking has always been good.But after 27 years,being on beach in some tropical paridise sounds pretty good too.Hope this helps.

 

Homeland security changed alot of the rules.

Companies can now require the proof of ID to enter their grounds if security is the main issue.

 

I dont think a shipper/receiver has any right to it either

We went to one consignee to deliver a load (don't remember which it was, have to ask my hubby when he gets back in truck, inside truck stop right now) they not only asked us for both of our drivers license but they kept our license as hostage until we left the gate. When you give them your license they give you an ID card with a little clip to clip it to your shirt. When I asked why they were keeping our license they said it was because some drivers had lost their ID card because the tag comes apart from the clip if you are not careful with it. So, you cannot have your license back until you either return the tag or pay 10.00 to have it replaced if you lose it.

 

Have I.D. On side of truck in big huge lettering with a DOT number under it. If they think they getting my dl in their hands they can think again,

Drivers dont be so gullible as to fall for this crap. it amazes me how everyone bows down to these shippers and recievers.

your the driver, that hauls the freight. the customer pays. your in charge, stand up for yourselves and have some self respect.

its nothing to get a different load if the current shipper is rude. (company drivers may be under certain restrictions) but Owner ops. come on, get it together.

 

Easiest solution is to tell them you have no license. It was kept by the last place so you have nothing to give them.

 

The consignee was Toyota in Princeton, Indiana.

 

my son had an individaul working for hom fo about a month,concrete business,when he got a letter from ssi dept,saying that persons ssi didn't match him,he got canned for it,good worker too,but he had a fake id to work in the usa,just a little info,anything can be made for enough money,keep the shiny side up.seeya.
