DEF fluid is just urea (dried piss) and 65% ionized water (Google it) --maybe you can make your own !
-
You 'n I know that, but half of the morons out there barely know there is compressed air on a big truck.
-
I did. They told me it was not possible to pay at the pump. Like I was ignorant. When I told them it was possible and listed several companies who were able to do it they replied that they just don't have it set up and would not be getting it set up any time soon. Unbelievable!

I can get the DEF on the Comdata card only at Pilot or Flying J.
I have not been able to get it to work anywhere else..
Nobody has been able to figure it out.. -
Aside from making the engine computer irritated and being in derate mode when it detects you added fuel but not DEF I've not heard of any permanent damage from running out of it. Unless it destroys the catalyst after you run with it dry for a while.

And what's up with all the frozen DEF pumps..
DEF has been around for awhile and this was a problem last winter..
And they still don't have it figured out. WTF..................
But I found out last nite that the Kwik Trip in Tomah will put your fuel and DEF on the same ticket..
You just have to take your ComData card in and they will authorize both...
-
First make sure your comdata card is setup to allow DEF [at the pump] purchases. Then know that most truck stops now have DEF at the pump and a simple pump menu option selection to allow this, BUT there are a handful that require you do do things a bit differently then normal. Most notably a handful of TA's and Petros, that require a separate transaction and authorization that has to be done by the people at the desk, while your at the pump. You may have unfortunately happened upon one of those rare truck stops where DEF purchase is not as straight-forward as it typically is.

Well, first I have approach the fuel island from the wrong side...oh wait, that's not what you wanted to know. Never mind.
-
Today, I received a email from Landstar. Apparently, Landstar's IT department needs to make adjustments to their programming to accept the DEF as a fuel type. Once that is done then the fuel department can call Comdata to authorize purchase at the pump. When that will happen is anybody's guess. DEF has been around for 4 years and they are still working on it.
Thanks for all of you input.
