I was told for 3 months but so far he's progressing much quicker so I'm thinking more like 2 months.

As I was dropping my loaded trailer in Charlotte this morning my reload came in, we had to run down to Rock Hill to pick up a loaded trailer going right back to San Diego for Thursday morning. No rest for he weary. Just left the Peelot in Duncan SC with fuel in the truck, food in our belly and a nice hot shower. I'm going to bed, I take the wheel at 9 tonight

Gotta love this training deal. Where else can you get little to no sleep, eat breakfast at 6pm, supper at 8am, lunch somewhere in between, drink gallons of coffee and try to remember to take your medications as prescribed? This is the life! (Sarcasm).

We just crossed into California on I-8. I will be dropping this trailer at the same consignee as I did on Saturday. Yesterday and last night worked out very well for George, he was able to contribute to the truck as a second seat driver, I was able to do a lot of teaching, and we put in 1350 miles in 24 hours.

Photo taken last week in the rest area at Texas Canyon near Benson AZ.

Hey Mr John boy. My name is Mary Willams. I've tried to reach Abilene via phone and can't get any one to answer.
However I want to share this story with u.
Last Sunday, while driving thru Iowa on a very snowy, icy evening, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the best truckers in the world. And he was an Abilene driver.
About 730 in the evening, I was on i-80 and I hit a patch of black ice and lost control of my car and slid off the hwy, down a embankment into a tree. This all happened right beside a rest area.
Your fellow Abilene driver was in the rest area and saw me crash.
Within a minute he was at my car helping me and my 2 kids out of the car. After accessing the damage, he invited us to come sit in his truck while I tried to reach my husband and the police.
To make a long story short, we ended up sitting with this driver for about 3 1/2 hrs that night.
He was nothing but professional. He fed my children with food in his truck. Let my kids play his video game system to keep them entertained. My son even fell asleep on his bed.
I just wanted to say thank u to him in some kind of way. I didn't get his phone number and like I said, I can't seem to get anyone on the phone at Abilene.
Like I said, he was nothing but professional and the inside of his truck was spotless. I thank god this man was in the area that night. It was pretty scary.
By the way, his truck number was 1328. And his name was chuck. If u know him and can pass this message along to him or your company, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, and merry Christmas. Mary

Hi Mrs. Williams. Thank you very much for posting this. I wish these kinds of stories would get out to main stream media. We hear the stories of bad truck drivers or bad truck stories and do not hear often enough of the "professional drivers" out there who do good deeds.

I hope you and your family were unhurt and that you have a Merry Christmas and a SAFE Happy New Year. Thank you for posting this.

Chuck in truck 1328. Unsung hero my friend. Job well done!

Johnboy: I have been following you at both places for a couple of years. I am a former OTR driver who left the road. Through your posts, I can keep a taste of the industry I love. Sadly, as professional drivers, we are not paid enough and I had to leave to find a job that would allow me to pay my child support on a consistent basis. I miss the road almost every day and really appreciate the service you are providing with these posts.

Be safe out there, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. To all the drivers (and others) who read this post, you too, have a Merry Christmas (or happily celebrate your holiday) and a Happy New Year. Be safe in your travels.

    Warmest regards,
    George

Another rah rah story about a "hero" trucker. Bah humbug!!! Lol seriously, its great to hear this stuff and the truth is, it happens all the time. We are still the "Knights of the Highway". You just hear more stories that are bad instead of good. Hats off to this driver and the many more who do it all the time and remember Mary, Chuck represents the majority of truckers out there! Thanx for the great post!

Please forgive me for not replying to this truly wonderful story. I have been on the night shift with my trainee trying to get to South Carolina from California for a 6am delivery Sunday morning.

First off let me say from the bottom of my heart how wonderful it is to read about a positive outcome to your accident, the car can be replaced, those children and yourself cannot. I read your post about what happened and what was done to keep you and your children safe until help arrived. Yes it happened to be a fellow company driver that I work with. If it wasn't chuck in Abilene truck number 1328, I assure you, it would have been anyone of the long distance truck drivers that you see every day on the highways of this country. Chuck is a hero in your eyes, in mine he did what everyone of us would do if faced with the same scenario, and believe me, not one of us would hesitate one bit to help, that's what we do.

When I read your story, the very next morning I called into safety and informed my immediate supervisor, Sally Arndt about what happened, she told me that Chuck was at the yard earlier , had to leave on another load and never once mentioned about what happened in Iowa. You see, that's how the majority of us are, we do our job safely, try and blend in with everyday life and are usually the first ones to render assistance when needed, either to help someone with a flat tire, someone broken down or in your case involved in an accident, we don't judge, we do what we do because we are all human beings and need to share the road with everyone else.

Twenty minutes after getting off the phone with Sally I received a phone call from Scott Jenkins, our safety director here at Abilene, news about you and your accident and Chucks assistance traveled right to the top of our company. Scott gave me his personal cell phone number to forward to you so that you can call him personally, he hopes you call him so he can get some more information from you about the actions of our driver in helping you and your children. His number is 804-837-1456.

God bless you, your children and every over the road truck driver this holiday season, be safe in your travels and the next time you should make eye contact with one give him or her a little smile or wave.
