Back when I was OTR with Conway I had given my two weeks notice right before thanksgiving. Two days before turkey day they gave me a load to Jersey City, I called pissed off to tell them my two weeks are up, either deadhead me or I find my way home, I'm not going to New Jersey, ARE YOU CRAZY?

53 footers are illegal in NYC unless your just going to one stop or two stops. Not doing p/d will multiple stops. I have done the Bronx when I peddled at my last job. On occasions they sent me with my tractor to our Brooklyn terminal and I've done queens Brooklyn and Manhatten. All with a 40 footer. Manhatten is by far the easiest as its wider and a lot of street side deliveries, but the traffics the worst there.

Aka I wouldn't want to do it again...

I was thinking the same thing! I'm in the opposite position from the OP---even being on opposite corners of the state. I'm local now feeling like I need to change companies, but I keep running into recruiters who are trying to get me to accept OTR even though their ads say local.

Store delivery is rough at first. You're going to feel the pain, but you'll quickly get into the best shape you've ever been in your life. I did something similar for approximately 4 years, only I was on a dedicated regional team. I didn't have as much home time as you're getting. You're going to like your home time.

Good luck on the oil field tanker job. I hope you get the offer. I was looking into getting into the state's new natural gas boom too. Most of the companies I've seen require a year of tanker experience even though the job hauls water. I'm not trusting the gas tanker jobs around here to get the experience. My brother in law did one and it was a nightmare. I guess hauling fracking water won't be in my future.

I wish you the best of luck!

I'll agree I'd give up my CDL before going OTR. the only OTR I would do is if my terminal makes a layover bid. In my current situation that would be the best for now

I am confused I thought windsmith lived in NC
of course I thought I lived in NH
turns out I live in Green Bay
and what I like the best is OTR
    irregular routing
but apparently I will drive 80 for the foreseeable future

I've only done the 5 boroughs handful of times. far from being a "expert"
NYC In / Out only thing really sucked kangaroo balls.

The stupid no trucks on exits threw me off. drive around the "city" and P&D is not a problem, know your situational awareness with TT its cake, getting into or leaving was my *itching lol

I consider my hometown city 2nd worse for trucks, Won't name it but impossible for TT turn around if lost.

Born and raised in Brooklyn and lived there for 21 years. Took my NY Class 1 road test in Maspeth queens. Also lived in Long Island for 4 years. I'm with everyone else, you wont ever catch me back there with a Tractor Trailer! As far as owner operators, how can you afford the east coast Tolls???
