How about refusing to take a load that pays below 1.80pm for example, if we all refuse it wouldn't it eliminate all the double/tripple brokering?? if we all refuse it for few days they will have no choice but to pay up..QUIT TAKING FREIGHT THAT DOESNT PAY ACCORDINLY ..LET ALL THE BIG COMPANYS WITH BIG FUEL DISCOUNTS HAUL THAT CRAP

There was another post I read about driver's not being able to park at the customer for their 10 hour break because of complaints from the neighbors. To hell with them. If they don't like the noise then move because it's a business and if you would like to keep continuing to get to go to the store and buy the thing's you need then you ought to stop b****ing about the noise! It's complete BS! Oil.... BS! HOS.....BS! Brokers....BS! That's ok though, they'll keep on and there won't be any trucks delivering these products and I'd like to see the railroad's try to take on these delivery's because they can't. I'm waiting on the day it does happen because when it does this country is going to shut down and go to s***. I think we are headed past a recession. If it doesn't then it'll be the worst recession in history that will take year's to recover from.

I do think one major problem is the brokers. I picked up a load the other day going from Portland Oregon to Las Vegas. The broker which by the way was a branch of a truking company initially offered me $1600. He finally agreed to pay $1700. Which was not great but better than the $1.10, 1.20 pm loads going out of Portland. I am a flatbedder by the way.
When I picked up the load the shipper asked me what the broker was paying me and I told them. He was very upset. The broker charged him $3600 for the load. The broker made $1900 just for setting up the deal. This happens all the time.
I remember talking to one broker from a major brokering firm and he/she liked to talk. He/she basically said that they normally will not touch a load unless they can make at least 20% or better.
That is discusting. You could say well why did you take the loads? I can't sit for days waiting the perfect load. I have to keep moving.
One problem. BROKERS! They are gouging the public and even as fuel goes up and the rates go up, my rates are the same or worse. They are charging the shippers more but pocketing the increases.
I don't give a #### about market forces. This is wrong and needs to be addressed.
If I could I would boycott Oregon and Florida. What they are paying is just rediculous. But they will find someone to move their freight because most guys out here are living paycheck to paycheck. The brokers have got you over a barrell . All we are doing is making every one else a lot of money and we get the short end of the stick while doing all the work.
I am sick and tired of all the politicians and the general public being so ignorant and ignoring what goes on out here. I am sick and tired of the state DOT's using truckers as a major source of income. Everything is our fault, etc., etc. Truckers are this or that.
Screw em. We should just park em. But I can't. I am one flat tire away from being bankrupt.
The trucking industry in my opinion needs more regulation. There are too many middle men who do nothing more than sit on their ##### and make all the money.
I feel sorry for company drivers who have to spend half their checks just to eat on the road. I mean the whole system is screwed up.
Anyway, I've said enough. I'm getting madder by the minute. Gotta go.
Take care. Be good.

How can you do that. I have four children at home and my wife stays home to take care of them. If this truck is not moving. I make nothing as opposed to something. I have to keep the bills paid.
I would love to shut down. I have been home for 2 days in the last four months. Being sold a stolen trailer pryor and fuel prices are wiping me out.
We need a leader who can take this message to the big guys and tell them they better start coming up to the plate, or we won't have to strike, we will just go out of bussiness.
I am all for a strike. But how it is done is the big question. I don't think shutting down the freeways is the answer but we do need some kind of concensus, however you spell it, as to how and when.

how in the world can you haul freight for .90 a mile when it cost .80 a mile just for the cost of fuel not to mention insurance, tags, tires, everything.
You can't replace your truck and trailer for .90 a mile what is wrong with the brokers math or companies math my calculator and theirs must be different. everyone should stop for 1 week and say no more enough is enough!!!!why don't everyone stick together. run the da__ brokers out somehow -
I agree, but how can you do it without going broke. My credit is already suffering because ot the fuel prices.

I have 7 O/O running for me 2 of them are my uncles....these last 2 weeks have been really tough for me...we are getting good rates for produce outta OR/WA to go to NJ those brokers/shippers will take care of us because we do a good job.....the problem is places we go like NJ/PA we cannot get any backhauls to OR/WA for more than 1.40 a mile i simply refuse to haul for less than 1.75 right now...
These last 2 weeks ive deadhead 4 trucks from NJ to IN and told my guys that i will drastically decrease my dispatching % in order for my o/o to keep working with me...i keep telling them that it will get better but when will it happen who knows??
We don't have to strike ...theres 75% of all big rigs are O/O if we all refuse to haul for cheap eventually shipper/broker will have to up the rate, but we all have to refuse it!! Try to Deadhead to a better spot..if u are a small Fleet like me help ur o/os by cutting your own % revenue and give back to o/o as in extra fuel....Try to put 2 or 3 LTL loads together to make more in revenue if you can...but whatever you do DO NOT TAKE LOADS THAT DON'T PAY YOUR BILLS.
Parking your trucks across the Interstate wont do anything except piss off more people, and i know how hard it is to be away from home and you cannot find a good paying backhaul...if we all going to do this why not and park your rigs at your own home and take vacation for a day or 2 go fishing, or do something with your families! Imagine if we all take 1 or 2 days off at home....not only rates will skyrocket from your own state but your backhauls will see larger revenue! Think about this one....all we need is a date and all we need is unity...if we all take vacation like i said not only shippers wont be able to move their freight but we can put all those cheap ### brokers in check! explain that to your customer why you cant move the freight! -
I agree. I don't believe that shutting down the interstates is at all a good idea. But how do you get a few thousand o/o to just park it for a couple days to get the message across. I have no idea.
Again as mentioned before. If I don't run, I get paid nothing as opposed to something. As far as dead heading. With the price of fuel as it is, I can barely offord to pull out of the truck stop.
I sincerly believe that oil prices will not come down no matter what we do or threaten. I don't have to get rich, but these brokers need to know that sooner or later something is going to break. I think we are in for a real nasty time and pretty soon its going to be every man for himself.
I hate to see it but I think the writing is on the wall.

This is the best idea I've seen so far. -
Well, I can say that O/O refusing load's won't get the point across. It sound's as if some of you are scared to protest. Don't give them any sign of running scared because they know they can get the better of you. Shut it down. Shutting it all down will not only raise a brow to the government but to the entire country. Fuel price's, broker's, HOS in my book have to be umong the top of the list along with some other's that rank below it. Now these post's I've been seeing about doing away with split speed limits is a joke. Your barking up the wrong tree for that one and shouldn't even be mentioned in a protest because it'll just get thrown out because to the government, that is a joke. Stick to the major problems of concern that are putting small companies out of business. I say move to strike and I'm 110% behind every driver who support's shutting down. I even give MASS credit to those who park their trucks blocking the border's to Mexico. To hell with that. If they won't pay the truck driver what they deserve and charge them out the ##* for fuel then make them suffer by not leting mexicans in to do the job. We will all suffer from it yes but I bet we would make a better gain in the long run as long as your willing to sacrifice the time and money loss.
